After 8 years of putting in I finally drew a tag!!! (even though Covid tried to screw it all up).
I went over for 5 days early (May 11-15) and we saw 16 bears. Only one of them was a for sure shooter but he was jet black, we still made a play on him and fortunately for me he never showed back up.
We headed back over on June 4th to hopefully catch the rut right and start to pick up some bigger more mature boars. 23 bears into this trip we finally located the bear I was after locked down on a sow. After 10 seconds in the spotter we confirmed he was everything I wanted. Big, brown, Boar. It took us about 1:45 to hike and climb around to where he was. We descended into his basin hoping he was still there and setup. It wasn’t 15 minutes into sitting down that we spotted the blonde sow and he was right behind. I dialed the scope for 3MOA (300 yards) and the 338 edge did the rest.
The pack out wasn’t that awesome but I guess it could have been worse. We could have been in the bottom instead of halfway in the bottom. 😉
He squared out at 6’-3” and has a skull just shy of 19”. Now I can’t wait to wait another 10+ years to draw again.
