carry/hunting pistol
« on: June 15, 2020, 12:15:15 PM »
so ive been packing an older taurus 24/7 40 cal for the last 15 years with me everytime i step into the woods. thinking about swapping it out and maybe something a little different. the taurus has an external safety which i would like to work out of. im thinking of a glock full size in 10mm with just the trigger and heel safeties. no hammer. any recommendations or opinions and why.  open to other brand options, just not well versed in them all. thanks for the replies.

this will be carried in a chest holster and want fast access, point and shoot. im open to other calibers

In 10mm, the G20 Glock is a pretty good choice.  The G40 would be another option, but it's about 1.5 inches longer.

xdm 10mm for sure. I waited a long time for a xdm in 10 and mine do not disappoint.

I’d say for the self defense option i would lean towards the G20. Nothing wrong with the G40 or any of the others mentioned but the longer barrel only serves for hunting ranges imo. I carried a g20 concealed for years and really came to appreciate it.

Have a Springfield TRP longslide with Trijicon red dot - super accurate, but big for all around, everyday carry.
Also shooting a Glock 40 with Leupold Delta red dot, KKM barrel, trigger job- very accurate but still to big.... but buying another to have :-)
Going to purchase a Glock 20SF, no red dot and see how it works.... obviously I like 10mm...

This would be purely for hunting carry. And thanks all for the replies so far! Good info. Going to get a gunfightersinc chest holster once I decide.

PMR 30. Its light and I like my chances with 30 rounds in any situation.

I have a PMR 30 and do not trust it in a life or death situation.  Mine has had a catastrophic failure and blew the side of the slide out.  It is a fairly common problem that I found out researching after it happened to me.  They did fix it for free however.  Don't get me wrong, it's a fun gun to shoot, but not for me in a critical situation.  I have a full size Springfield xd 45 that goes with me hunting.  Very reliable weapon.
