No doe tags in the NE?
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:01:15 PM »
I may have missed a thread on this, but did anyone notice that there were no doe tags available for the northeast corner?  I called my sister yesterday to remind her to put in for the draws and when I was thumbing thru the regs for the hunt numbers, I realized there weren't any...
Must be because of the winter kill  :dunno:

still, I was suprised not to see any "regular" doe tags.  Again, not for me, I only put in for quality hunts, but sis ate tag soup last year, and I thought I would advise her to try to get a doe tag to hedge her bets this season...

:yeah:

The WDFW found that a lot of people that were issued doe tags didn’t use them, opting to take a buck instead.  So the went to 2nd deer tags for does.

Talked to a guy out of Addy, his son has a large farm NW of Colville and has been granted several tags last few years for does.  Drove by that farm and saw the deer.  Only saw five just driving by at about 9 in the morning, probably more of them in the cover next to the creek.  I talked to the farmer and he suggested I call back later in the year.  He doesn't know how many tags he might get this year.

I've heard that the deer have been hammered by the past two winters in the NE part of the state.  I'm sure the wolves aren't helping things either......

OK, that makes sense.  I thought maybe the winter kill was even worse up there than I thought...

I've heard the rumor about wolves too.

However, there's still a lot of deer out there.  A few deer came through the field several times while I was set up for turkey.  Nearly got one with the truck Tuesday morning, was going 30 though, so easy to miss.  Looks like someone on 395 hit one the same morning drug it about a quarter mile and then finally dislodged it by circling around twice in an intersection.

This is what the farmer said.  He had left over tags because he couldn't find enough hunters to fill the doe tags.

So, will someone fill me in on how a 2nd tag works?

It allows you to buy a second tag (I think it's $15) and take two deer.  The 2nd tag is only good for the hunt that you drew.

It's $22

Second Deer (if selected for special
permit)
$22.00

THanks for clearing that up CP.  I was wondering too.
..BTW, nice Avatar.  Is that you, or your hunting partner...?

and if selected you lose all your points for deer, so if your trying for the trophy units, your pretty much screwed. The deer have been hammered up here the last 2 years, not looking real good up north by the canadien border, spent the last 2 days up there poking around never saw a deer, barely even deer tracks on the muddy logging roads, not good for the area, saw 2 whiteys down low in a field and 1 muley in the road. Elk are not hurting, lots of sign ;)
