Bear hunting newb question.

I am new to bear hunting and out here on the west side by Lynden/ Bellingham. I have bear all over my cams from momma and first year cubs to one big mean looking boar. My question.... This area is thick thick cutover clear cuts with big timber in creek drainages, do you recommend slapping a couple tree stands up, blinds, or sitting on the ground? I think this area is to thick to slip around in. I am a whitetail hunter from the south so I was thinking maybe putting my hang ons in the draws or timber edge. Sight distance in all my areas is at most 30 yards unless I sit on logging roads.

If there is a good food source nearby I think it can be effective.

Treestand would probably work great if they're consistantly using the area.

Tree stands work well but you have to be on there food or between food and bedding area. Which is likely not going to be where they are now. Or just call them in..

As of right now they are hitting the wild strawberry and looks like some berry close to a blackberry. I have one area they use every day but those are mainly does and cubs and the occasional small boar. The other 2 areas are where the big boar are hitting it. Every other day they are in cam at around 4 to 430 in the afternoon so I think the bedding area is close. In all I have 5 cams and each one has different looking bears and I know some are definitely different because it's same day same times as the other cams.

if you have a decent straight away on that road and its not being used by vehicles anymore (like alot of the roads in my area), I'd setup on that road.
  They will come down it or cross it eventually.

Do what you know. If you know tree stand hunting, do that....Then learn from it as you go. Just know that bear behavior is mostly about food, and the food sources change throughout the year.

And if you can only see a short distance, id use a gun with iron sights, a reflex sight, or a 1-?x  Scope set on 1x.

Probably should do the tree stand if you are by yourself.

I agree with Bango about not using a high powered scope. You are gonna pull it up and just see black.

If it isn't far of a walk then consider taking a rifle and a shotgun. 

Just make sure you watch a video on how to cut them up and keep in mind the August heat. That is more important.

Thanks for the advice guys...... I have a slug gun I will be taking with me to the stand. I have actually got a saddle hunting setup so i can run and gun to a few different areas.

When a bear feels like a nap he takes one, often times laying right in the berries.  Ive seen more than one rise from an afternoon nap right in the middle of the berries.  Bedding area......bears sleep where and when the urge strikes them.
