Archery Entiat
« on: June 16, 2020, 08:26:38 AM »
I drew the archery Entiat buck tag.  Drew with 14 points.  I plan on getting over several times for summer scouting looking for roadless draws.  I am a very avid archery elk hunter and have no issues putting boots on the ground.  I'm pretty excited about the potential to harvest a great buck.  Any suggestions, greatly appreciated.

I would be ready for any and all weather conditions. That time of year, it can go from clear and sunny to sideways snow and drifts before you know it. Ideally, you would get enough snow to push the deer down out of the high country but not so much snow that you can't get around. Should be a fun hunt no matter what but also will take some work to get within bow range. Good luck!

Roadless draws? Not in that unit. Archery hunt from the I90 side of the unit. Much more stockable terrain. Those deer will get on top of dunes and scan. Many times they will look right past you if you stand still. Don't give up if you see a big buck he won't go far.  Don't drive from the Mardon side to the center of the unit and hike toward i90. You will waste time walking through a dead zone. Hunt between A rd and C rd. You can park at the end of both. Take off your boots for your stocks. Even in the sand they hear everything.

not sure there are many sand dunes in the entiat...  :chuckle:

I would scout roads and terrain more than anything.  The bucks your gonna want to shoot are going to filter down into the unit due to weather.  There are roads everywhere, but narrow, slippery, and possibly blocked due to down timber.  A full size vehicle is difficult to get around at times, I'd pack a chainsaw, tow strap, etc.

Like vandeman said be ready for inclement weather.  I've been on that hunt where it didn't get above freezing the whole time and it was low teens at night.

Be prepared and it should be a great time. Good luck!

I'm thinking that's the "other" great late archery tag :chuckle: :dunno:

I'm heading over July 22 for a couple days to check out some areas.  Anyone have any Entiat buck pics they would like to share?

There have been dozens of entiat buck picture threads over the years. I bet a quick search would drum up a few.
