https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fila_Brasileiro             Also a .22 is deadly on humans.  All a person "needs".  .38 has some punch and is good for a stronger option that is still mellow.   We have a Fila.  5 years old.  Great family dog, great guard dog.  Not friendly to strangers at all.   :yike:
MAGA!  Again..

20 gauge youth model Remington 870 express, pump action. I still have mine and its short enough to make sense in doors.

I have one, and these are pretty compact and lightweight.  Perhaps with a lighter load it would be acceptable.

We are a nation of Riflemen, not tasermen or shotgun men or pistol men.  Get an AR for her.

If you are worried about recoil, this is the perfect SD/HD option, especially in the country, where it could double as varmint control, I'd imagine.

MP5 or Uzi

The AR pistols in 300 would probably be a good option too.

Also love the idea of the coach shotgun.   Round count is an issue but very effective.

If your wife feels comfortable operating her 870, go to a 20 gauge 870 with a short barrel or even cut one off to 18"(or 181/2" to be safe) Some people might even depart upon hearing the action being worked prior to the big boom.  :sry: The biggest thing is to make sure she feels confident with whatever she is using and is willing to do what needs to be done.

Thanks for the great suggestions, I'm still not sure what I'll get her but I'm leaning towards a youth model 20 gauge pump, or a AR in .223 or 30 caliber.

If you go with a shotty, in a close proximity self defense situation low base bird shot is great, no need to shoot super heavy recoil shells esp with a smaller gal on the trigger

Once loaded she can hold most threats till back up comes. 14 rounds.

A youth 20 gauge shotgun, pretty simple and no aiming needed.

Dude you still have to aim a shotgun, especially in close quarters. quit perpetuating stupid *censored* like that.

You don’t aim a shotgun, you point it.  That’s what people that are far better than I say.

My worry about rifles is that they can go through several walls.  Hitting the bad guy is important, equally so, if not more is not hitting anyone else.

If I went that route, it would be a more expensive one, and it would be relentlessly tested and/or tuned up by a smith.  The cheaper ones from Brazil are not necessarily something I would hand to someone for SD/HD.

Applicable to trap shooting. Not when youre 5-10 feet away from your target.
