Otc out of state.
« on: July 02, 2020, 11:46:58 AM »
Well i just got the news that Idaho sold out of general deer tags.. i really want to hunt out of state mule deer this year, and the more I’m looking around the more I’m getting shut down. Is there any true state with over the counter muley tag that i can still buy this late in the game? I didnt apply for tags/permits in any state this year.. anyways thanks for the help! Hope i can snag some info on this

I think archery in Oregon is over the counter. That's about the only one I know of, other than here in Washington.

Archery in Oregon? Other than that, I'd say pick up some Super Hunt/Raffle Tags  :chuckle:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I have been looking into this and Arizona. Even Nebraska. I do archery Hunt on occasion and might have to get after it with a stick and string..

If you broaden the search beyond deer you will have more options like CO elk, pigs, landowner/outfitter tags, etc.

North Dakota has otc archery

Partially accurate.
Not true for nonresidents seeking mulies.  https://gf.nd.gov/regulations/deer#byseason

The OTC archery deer in AZ is pretty good. Especially in December and January. The season is long so you get lots of chances. Unfortunately the tag is calendar year. So if you came in late December you'd either have to buy the next year tag or end the hunt on the 31st. The tag is good for the whole year though so you could hunt it in Aug-Sept also. I'd be happy to answer specific questions about hunting in AZ if you have them.

Appreciate it! I was thinking about this hunt starting Jan 1 and then having the tag throughout the rest of the year. I maybe messaging you! Thanks

was going to say Alaska blacktail, but that one's already taken ;)

Looked into blacktail hunting on Kodiak recently. Tickets up there are super cheap, but there's potential quarantine restrictions that made me can the idea. Last I saw you had to have a covid test or do a mandatory 14 day quarantine on arrival.

Call Idaho and ask them what day or days they post there returned tags.  They should be posted on a Monday and for sale on Thursdays.  First come first served.

ID is gonna be so crazy busy this year. At min theres gonna be 4k more non residents plus the continued swarm of new residents.

Yes same number of tags but a good chunk went to either residents or nonresidents as second tags last year.

:yeah: theres usually several thousand tags available on Aug 1 to be purchased as a second tag for residents and non residents. And they go fast after that.  The elephant in the room is still the new residents issue though.

The new residents are going to increase the hunter numbers immensely.
