Moose in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie?
« on: July 08, 2020, 08:04:03 AM »
Ever seen a moose in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie drainage?  Heard a credible report of a cow moose crossing the main road.  Hope I see one, always thought it would make great habitat.

Haven't, but it's just a hop and a skip from the Teanaway where there's a few. I believe we'll be seeing more westside moose in years to come as they disperse from their more traditional habitats. Hell, the first ever WA moose was reported in 1950 something if I rmember right.

Did it have wolves running behind it?

Most likely a cow elk but it would be a easy walk up and over Dutch Miller Gap.

Yes the wolves are doing a great job at dispersing them. I just wonder how many are going to get pushed out on their own and never be able to even breed. I certainly don’t see moose or moose sign in the Teanaway all the time but I do get pictures every couple of years along with the one that was hit on the highway 97 five or 10 years back in the middle of the day that they figured must’ve been getting chased by something for it to be trying to cross the main highway with that much traffic. Shoot I think it was last year my wife said there was a moose running  down the 81 road going into Kittitas. I said no way had to be a cow elk and then she showed me the video of it on Facebook and it was a dang cow moose running down 81 Road right towards the water tower in Kittitas. So it would definitely not surprise me if they were showing up on the west side

Moose have been gathering up the Middle Fork for longer than I can remember.....What attracts them?
It must be the water, "On The Rocks".  :chuckle:

I believe it. Ever since the wolverine and wolf were hit on I-90 by exit 38, all bets are off for animals in North Bend IMO. A moose coming over Snoqualmie Pass or Dutch Miller Gap would be an easy trip. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the person saw a wet cow elk on a cloudy day, they can look pretty dark when wet in those conditions.

Anytime there is a Wet Cow around, a Big Bull will be close behind.  :chuckle: (Perhaps this Big Guy?)
