Opinions on Broadheads?
« on: April 13, 2009, 02:05:34 PM »
Hey guys, i need some of you archery buffs to help me out. I'm switching broad heads this year after two years of bad luck with 100 grain 3 blade muzzy's. I have narrowed it down from talking to other people to the G5 striker and the wac'em triton. I was wondering if anybody has ever used either one and what do you think about them?

Thanks TRS

WAC_EM! All the way.  They fly great out of a fast bow and they are indestructible through an animal.  I sure like them a lot

of teh 2 you stated, wac-em are better, g5 sucks IMO.
you should look into the magnus heads they are sturdy, sharp, and best of all have a lifetime guarantee. when you shoot a rock you get a new head!!!!

I have had great luck with the Muzzys. What kind of problems did you have with them? I can't keep up with all the new gear but I know there are some great new products out there. Kinda curious how the Muzzys failed you.

I have shot the G5 Strikers as fast as 350fps and they fly perfect. Shot them all the way out to 90 yards.

Last years Bull I shot one that blew through both shoulder blades at 10 yards. The only damage was the back of one of the blades was broken. Otherwise it held together.

I have been using 100 grain slick trick magnums for the last two season with good results. They fly very well and are very tough. I shot my practice broadhead for almost a year before I broke a blade. I was thinking of giving the G5 strikers a try also this year to see how they compare.

Last year two of the blades broke on a pass through on a mule deer and the year before that i mushroomed a muzzy on the shoulder blade of an elk. Muzzy is the only kind of broad head i have ever shot. I don't hate them i just think that its time for a change.

G5 Montec  125grains all the way, if teamed with the right arrow of course!! some times certain style broadheads fly better on certain shafts than others....IMHO

I don't blame you for looking into other broadheads after those two experiences. It really surprises me that you had one mushroom. I thought the Muzzys were about as tough as they get although I am sure that many will out penetrate them.  I have always figured that it was impossible to shoot through the front shoulder of a big bull elk.
After reading Wapitihunters testimony on the G-5  Strikers it makes me want to switch also. No one plans to shoot a bull through the front shoulders but chit happens and it would be nice to shoot a broadhead that would hold up and perform under extreme conditions.

I gave the Strikers a try last year.  I wasnt to happy.  I had a blade break off inside of an elk.  I also broke several blades just shooting into the foam targets.  I contacted G5 about it and they sent me a new set of blades, but my personal opinion is that I will try a different broadhead this year.  As far as flight is concerned they fly just as well as Muzzys do.  I havent made up my mind what broadhead I will shoot this year.

Wac'em! Wac'em! Wac'em! I cant say it enough, I love my wac'em heads. They have done nothing but good for me. They fly just like a field tip, cant go wrong. There are only two cons about it, they are a little pricey, and they might be a bit small for the liking of some. But with a well placed shot head size is no problem.  :twocents:

I have also shot the Wasp Boss Bullets all the way to 100 yards(300 fps) ahead of my Gold tip 100+ arrows. They flew perfect also. What I liked about those is the blades are solid. No weak opening in the blade to crack or break. Shot one through my desert buck at 52 yards and six inches into the sand behind him and picked it up and put it back in the quiver ready for the next animal.

I will most likley be going back to the Boss Bullets this year as you can still pickup six for about $36.00 where as everything else is that much for three. :twocents:
