You can find suvs that can tow if you want. My wife’s 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a v8 and the auto leveling towing option for the back. You don’t even notice the boat back there. Although I still usually tow with my 16 6.7 Ford F-250 which I love or my old faithful 07 f150 that doesn’t have the towing capacity of the new ones but will still pull anything I have. If I had to go buy a new truck today and didn’t need a 3/4 or 1 ton I would go with the new f150. Several friends have them and love them.

I like the idea of an SUV, except for hauling lumber or plumbing pipe, but the couple I looked at had crap towing capabilities.

My wife's Explorer is the Platinum model with the 3.5 Ecoboost.  Power is really good and has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.  It seems to do pretty good on mileage but I don't know that I've ever actually checked it.

My new GMC AT4 has the 6.2 and 10 speed trans, kind of like our Explorer, it seems to do ok but I don't really pay much attention to mileage, I just put more in when it gets low.

Personally I'm keeping an eye out for the new bronco 4 door that's getting revealed on Monday. Ecoboost engine, 3500 towing capacity and I'd imagine pretty capable off-road and comfy in town depending on the package
A promise made is a debt unpaid, and the trail has its own stern code

Wife has a 2018 Durango R/T. Very roomy, comfortable and a blast to drive   The way she drives it, I won't post the MPG  :o

Based on how light your towing needs are, I’d probably go Tacoma or Tundra. They’re a little (a lot) behind on tech and all the high end options you can get on the big three, but that’s probably not a bad thing based on my experience. My experience with new Ford’s has not been great.

I just bought a 2020 chevy 3500hd.  It rides a lot nicer then my 2012 ram 3500 I traded in.  Not sure how my new truck does on mileage yet as it only has 200ish miles on it.  The new trucks have lots of bells and whistles which is nice until something goes wrong.
