I’ll bet they come out with a Limited Edition V8 version at some point.
I would bet a raptor edition with the 3.5 eco boost

Hennessy will do a 2.7 Ecoboost Raptor setup. Just like the Ranger Raptor.

People who are talking about a V8 in the new Bronco must not have experience with the 2.7 or 3.5

Both more than enough. A V8 would be a serious mistake in the modern market

Hahah it’s suppose to be the Jeep killer right?!?! Hard to do that when the tires on the Bronco say Wrangler!

You mean the Jeep is all that and a bag of chips? :chuckle:

Agreed. Unless it wants to compete against the 1999 Dodge Durango

Plans almost mean nothing anymore. Too much competition due to online purchasing. You can probably get a better deal just shopping around online.

The dealer has to agree to participate, which will likely be the big challenge to buying a new Bronco. They’ll all have second stickers on them and they’ll be flying out the door and the dealers won’t need to participate in X plan purchases to sell them.
My thoughts anyway.

My first car had a 403, it got 7 mpg and cornered like a battleship.  It also didn't want to start all winter.  I'm not thinking that is the pinnacle of automotive perfection.

Jeep is putting the 450 Hp, 392 V8, in the Wrangler Rubicon.

Apples and oranges.  Nobody is expecting anyone to drive around the Euroweenie 2.7, but use Armstrong steering.   Probably snap those wrists clean off.

:chuckle:

Be excited about the new Bronco if you want.  I am.  I would be more excited about it with an option for one of their newer V8 engines, for less complexity and durability.   I am not saying they should shoehorn in the new 7.3.

But I am not saying that nobody should.

Now see.  What is wrong with a little friendly competition in this market.

The point is that technology has changed and displacement is not the only metric anymore.  When we grew up, if you wanted more power you bought a new carb or bought a new bigger engine.  That still works, but there are way more effective means to boost hp and torque.

Sure, a V8 sounds better and if that's important then a guy should go for it.  If hp and torque are more important, in Ford's lineup for large production vehicles the smaller engines have more torque, hp, towing capacity, mileage, ....

A few guys will want a big engine over anything else, but the majority - vast majority will prefer something with more power and mileage.  Look at the F-150s, way more V6s sold than V8s, last I saw less than 25% of them went out with V-8s.  With diesel option now, that percentage will drop even further.

This comes from someone that has a V-8 F-150, I bought used and was agnostic on engines and it's what I ended up with.  I can't make an argument that it's the best option at all.  It might have lower cost of operation over the long term, but we'll see.  It does sound good though!  I have a few less mpg and a shade less power.

If anyone who has driven one of these highway death traps is excited about the 392 going in them, they are crazzzyyyy. Again I own a 2015 unlimited and other then it’s looks, it’s probably my least favorite car of all time. The wife loves it, so it stays, in the garage...

. . .

Agreed.  The point of displacement versus tacking on a bunch of tech and gizmos is about complexity and failure.  Even a largish pushrod V6 has fewer failure points than a possibly more powerful VVT, DOHC, turbo'd, 4 or similar smaller V6.

There is no arguing that tech can produce more power and torque from fewer cubic inches.  However, unless that power and torque can come with the same durability, reliability, and simplicity, which is a primary purchasing point for a truck far from civilization.  I don't want to have to diagnose a failed cam sensor or VVT actuator back in the woods.

The new 7.3 gas Ford is a pushrod two OHV, motor for the stated reason of realiabilty durability and low-RPM torque/power AND fuel economy, and it gets about 150% more MPG than my 460, mostly with tech, but with reliable tech.

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/car-technology/a26306469/ford-super-duty-73-v8-engine-details-specs/

I think the new Bronco will be great most as a pavement-pounder, grocery-getter, with some occasional towing.  In the hills, I suspect it will be leaving people wanting more.
