I haven't jumped on the Lapua bandwagon and I certainly wouldn't for an all round hunting gun. You'd have an easier time finding a factory gun in 338 RUM setup for general hunting. Performance between the RUM and Lapua is very close, so I don't think you'd ever notice the difference. The Lapua had an advantage when it came to brass quality at one point, but now you can get ADG brass for the 338 RUM, so it's not an issue.
So I received my 338 Lapua today, looking forward to using it this season, it's a McWhorter, and topping it off with a Nightforce 8x32. Comes with brakes for different loads 250 gr Sierra SGK and 300 gr Accubond. One hole groups with each.... Hoping it has enough foot lbs for my wife's Washington Mule deer if lucky she will get a stud 2x3 16" wide-Washington's finest!
