July Jumbo Blacktail
« on: July 16, 2020, 04:52:42 PM »
Been watching him for 3 years; made it through 2019 hunting season never got poached or run over....back for one more season.  Anxious to see what he looks like once the velvet is gone...

good old Walmart house brand feed corn
It is half the price of Tractor supply and at the end of the day I think corn is corn
They have 2 different "deer corns" but this is a livestock version....cheap cheap cheap

Awesome animal.  Is he living in Mason Co?

When I compare last year to this year, I'm thinking that's not the same animal.  He might be, but in my experience, those crab claws don't turn into nicely spread tines as they age. It seems to me that big old forkies eventually develop crab claws when they get really mature.  Bucks with genetics for a nice spread show it early one.  You can call BS on me and tell me I'm wrong - it won't hurt my feelings.   Regardless, he's a hell of a buck.

I agree with that comment about the crab claws....however I saw that buck all year long and into December last year and assumed it had to be him.  However, there was a another one in the summer of 2019.....he had fully developed 3 point but vanished August 8, 2019 never to be seen.  His horn structure was more similar to this one.  Either way....they seem to vaporize for months at a time between January and June and then miraculously reappear out of the blue.   Look over this pic of the ultimate mystery buck from 2019 and tell me if it is a better match

I'll be hunting Mason county this year with my step dad. Hoping for my first BT. We've seen a spike and a forkie. That deer is one fine specimen. Great tip with the Walmart corn.

In the 1st pic with the corn, there looks to be a forth kicker on the right side?

I agree.  That second pic is a better candidate.  Super nice bucks.
