Help
« on: July 17, 2020, 03:59:28 AM »
So this is my first year hunting. Turkey season went well even though I didn’t fill any tags but I saw plenty signs of birds and even spotted a flock all on the west side. Anyway I’ve been trying to coyote hunt and I’ve seen more crossing the road while driving then I have hunting. I think I’m doing all the rights things but I must be missing something and advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
George

I think coyote hunting is ten times harder than Turkey hunting.
But I'm on the EAST side ,maybe put a gmu your hunting and maybe someone in your area might chime in.

keep track of the time of day your seeing them in what area and get there about 1.5 hours earlier and set up for them.
dogs in my area are just like every other animal dawn and dusk are prime times, sometimes i luck out and get one a few hours before dark like 730 when it gets dark at 930ish.

Are you using a call?  Or just sitting and hoping (waiting)?

Gary
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

They live by their wits and are adaptable, way more will come to your call than you ever see.  Really can not compare them to birds, elk or deer.  Whole different level.  Good hunting!!!

Thanks for all the advice. I’m using a call of course. Funny thing happened last week, was walking up this Road and had a coyote jump out of the bushes right in front of me lol. Of course by the time I got my rifle ready to shoot he was long gone. Not sure what he was doing in those bushes but made me jump that’s for sure!
