Remember to check your targets and what is beyond!
« on: July 21, 2020, 03:10:26 PM »
If you have been to one of my seminars, you know that I always include her in my talk.

This is Pamela Almli who was killed by a bear hunter in Washington. Not posting this to start any sort of political thread, "she wore dark clothes", he shot to scare her, etc.
This post is a reminder that we cannot call back our bullets or arrows. Be sure what you are shooting at. Brush moving is not a bear. We are the ones responsible for our actions.

Be safe, stay hydrated, let someone know where you are going, when you'll be back, and when to start looking for you.
Have fun and good luck guys and gals! We are getting short on time before season.

I grew up with the Almlis, knew Pam and her son well. She was a hiking machine. I’ll never forget that day she was shot, could never and still don’t understand how that could happen. Anyway, great reminder.

I hunt near that area a lot.  I try to avoid hikers as much as possible.  I remember the day it happened.  Very tragic.  Thank you for the reminder.

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

Great post. Lots of berry pickers out there. Verify your target before sending it. I will have hunter orange on me in hopes of not getting shot at.

Brush pickers in GPNF, too.  They had me scanning the hillside (binos) once.

Great timing to repeat this message.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
