Cabelas at Lacey WA report Friday July 24, 2020
« on: July 24, 2020, 01:02:03 PM »
Pistol ammo is pretty much 99% gone. Three hour wait list to get service at the gun counter. Hard pass.
When will this madness end? :dunno: LOL we have all been through this before.

Three hours at the gun counter at Cabelas is pretty much their normal turnaround time.

I did the gun counter thing last Saturday at BassPro, 1.5hr wait@ 10:30am. No handgun ammo at all, although they did have .22LR and most big game calibers.

I've been turned away three times at the gun counter.  Even being there 4 hours before they close.  Nope, can't get on the list.  Lot of people pissed about it, me included.  Was told that if you want to buy a gun, get there an hour before they open and wait in line and don't try it on a weekend.  :bash:  Really sucks when they are the only ones that have what you are looking for.

I’m been done with them for a while now.  Prefer to shop at one of the many local guns shops

:yeah: I buy all my guns from Carpsniper right here on good ole HuntWA. Great guy, honest as can be and the best prices. Much rather support the small guys and from the sounds of it I can drive from home to his house and back faster then waiting in a crumby line. :chuckle:

I buy my guns on Gun Broker. I only go to shops to handle them if need be. Never Cabelas or Bass Pro. Sportco or Sportsmans Warehouse.

I just purchased a rifle for my young boys at Bob's Sporting goods in Longview. The customer service was topnotch and there really wasn't a wait at the gun counter. I'm going back!

Bob’s is a quality business. I’d buy from them any time

I live 10 minutes from Cabelas and I would never go there for a gun sale based on all the stories I hear. 2-5 hour wait?!?! No thanks. I went to Sportco 2 weeks ago for a firearm purchase  and I wan in and out in 30 minutes!

I bought a new pistol there a month ago(had a bunch of points to use) and it was pretty horrible. Both times I got there around 2ish and was there over 2 hours each time. It wasn’t like the store was busy either time either.

First trip, only had to wait 15 minutes to check out the gun, but seemed like it took forever to get to filling out paperwork...4473, the state hippa waiver be, and some store legal release form(??). Then wait for another employee to review everything. “Where were you born?” Then some more waiting. Then another review. Then finally, head to pay...wait another 15 minutes for the employee to come back from putting my pistol somewhere in the back and come ring me up. Said if I didn’t hear back in 30 days give them a call :yike:

8 days go by and I get a phone call, say I’ve got the “proceed” and to come in to pick up my gun. Asked if I needed to schedule an appointment, and they tell me, “nope, come in and we’ll fast track you since you’ve already done everything.”  So I get off work early and head down. I go up to the gun line and get the “sorry, lines filled up for the day” from the old timer there. I explained that someone had called saying to come in, and he sort of rolled his eyes but told me that I could wait around to see if a spot was available. Figured I was already there so what the heck. After 20 minutes or so I see the gun line guy motion for me to come over, so I was able to get a spot in the “pickup” line. At this point I start seeing people coming in and getting turned away, must have been called by the same person as me.

Then, the long wait begins. There were maybe 4 or 5 people ahead of me, and it was taking around 40 minutes each. These were people who had already gone through the background checks and paid. When my name got called, it basically began the same show as when I came in the first time. Got asked where I was born another 2 or 3 times. Then everyone leaves to go look for some poor guy’s ID that an employee lost. Then, waiting for a “captain’s check”, whatever that is. After what seemed like an eternity, I was given my pistol and went on my way.

What a hassle, at least I got a Glock 29 for $300 out of it, though.

I’ve bought several long guns over the years there, usually in and out in under a half hour, but always went through the gun library, and all before the BPS takeover. Last handgun I purchased was at federal way discount guns and when I was called back to pick up, all they did was verify my ID and sent me on my way. Don’t think I’ll bother with Cabela’s or bass pro again any time soon.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Not Cabelas, but hearing all the stories of ammo shortages, figured I best not wait til last minute.
Went to Sportsmans in Everett and got 3 boxes of 6.5 cm for my trip to Wyoming this fall.

There was a line at the gun counter of about a dozen customers stretched halfway thru the store. Shelves of ammo were pretty bare, but found what I needed and was out fairly quick.

The wall with handguns had maybe 30% of the stock.  :yike:

The trick to Cabelas/Bass Pro is to buy their doorbusters online and go on a weekday in the morning.  It's just as fast as a small shop.

If you went on a weekend you would probably be there all day. I stopped at Tacoma Bass Pro on a Saturday once and it was totally nuts.
