Installing a muzzle brake on a Kimber Montana
« on: July 27, 2020, 03:23:39 PM »
I ordered a factory brake from Kimber for my 280AI.  The brake is pitched 7/16x28.  Leave it to Kimber to pick an odd thread pitch.  Trying to determine the right tenon to use.  Any of you guys install one of these brakes?

What do you mean by the right tenon to use?

sounds like he's wondering what diameter to turn the barrel down to before threading?  :dunno:

For a 7/16 thread, that would be 7/16 tenon. You can look up the thread specs for the tolerances.

Yes this is what I was looking for. We contacted a couple different barrel manufacturers and confirmed .435.  It’s a toothpick of a barrel.

Leaves you 77 thou wall.... not much, especially after you consider thread depth....pencil barrel is right.

.035 thickness at base of threads.   Not much but still would be hold 1500-3000 lbs.  shoukd be fine.  If not you may end up shooting a 1200 grain brake at your target.   Hehe
