2nd Deer Tag Help - Anderson
« on: July 21, 2020, 11:22:21 PM »
so this year I put in for second deer for the first time and happened to get drawn for my last choice.. that choice being Anderson Island. (i didn't think i would actually get drawn) upon checking out the island via Onx it looks to me that there is no public land other than areas listed as "ANDERSON ISLAND PARKS & REC" and you can’t hunt there..  :dunno:

any help/advise or land access :chuckle: is greatly appreciated

i have not bought the 2nd deer tag. I feel as if I don't find access to public land or private i wont actually be able to hunt there  :bash: wasted draw

That tag is almost a guarantee draw most years because you have to have access to the private land.  I would just not buy the tag.

And people think the deer are their pets on the island, unless you already have access, your chances are slim at getting it.

It's the same with most "Island" draw tags.  Pretty much all private property and no public access.  I have secured some private property to hunt here on Whidbey Island where I live, and got drawn for a second deer tag this year.  I wouldn't have put in for it, without the access to private land.  Even though there is still some small tracts of public land to hunt on Whidbey.

You're not the first to get drawn (even by "accident") for an Island tag, and then find out there really isn't any public land to hunt.  Sucks, but it happens. :)

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset
