E callers and number of sounds
« on: August 02, 2020, 06:49:24 PM »
I got given a 200 dollar Cabela's gift card and trying to figure out what to do with it. I predator hunt once or twice a year and have been ramping up my bear hunting the last few years as well. Was thinking of using the gift card on an e caller. Don't want to spend a ton of money since I'm not using it a ton and I mostly hunt my old man's place where shots and setups usually put everything within a hundred yards so at the moment I'm not too concerned about range.

I assume there's a quality hike with the higher end callers but not knowing anything about electronics I can't really say for certain. Not ever used any mouth caller other than fawn in distress (and never using it successfully either) I don't really know if I would use more than a couple of calls that the basic ones give you (fawn, rabbit, and from watching YouTube seems like woodpecker does well too).

For what I'm doing would something like a foxpro dead bone work for what I need or is it really worth it to step up to a more expensive unit. I've got the gift card so I am going in with little to no cash out of pocket but I don't want to throw it away on a garbage unit. Any guidance would help. Thanks.

Also my dad's place has coyote, bobcat, cougar and bear so ideally sounds for all of those but again, from watching YouTube it seems only the basic calls are really needed. The immediate area gets little to no hunting pressure.

But I also don't know what I don't know so please feel free to tell me I'm wrong.

I have the Lucky Duck Rebel which is a really basic call with only 12 sounds. But I like the simplicity of it and the sound quality is really good with plenty of volume. Also the remote works reliably to 100 yards, which is way more than I'd ever need. You can get them for $120.

For $100 more you can get the Riot which has 50 sounds and the ability to add more.
