Here is what I found out today.

In the past, if you put in and didn't draw you went down to your local vendor and you traded in your tag for the Multi tag when they became available. They haven't figured out a way to safely go about this with the deadly virus going on :chuckle:

A certain person who I won't mention believes it would create too many of us charging into vendors swapping tags and spreading the virus since he thinks we are all hiding in our homes and not going into stores daily :chuckle:

They may try to figure out how to do it on-line this year or they may just not sell the tags. Either way it didn't sound good to me as it was pointing towards not selling the extra tags. That is a lot of revenue for WDFW that I personally can't believe they would let go of. However, it could be a great thing for our deer herds!

Hmm...if they don't sell the left overs then they will probably get into a bit of trouble, as they advertised, even after the COVID started in March, before the application deadline that part of the reason to apply is because they will sell the left overs in August (even printed it in the regulations which came out in April) and that you had to apply to be eligible to buy a left over...so, it would be smart of them to allow on-line purchasing, after all they were having people print out their tags when WDFW was closed down in May.

The feeling I got with the conversation was they weren't sure how to do it yet on-line so  that the people who applied and didn't draw were the ones getting first shot at the tags. My first thought was this info (who drew, who didn't draw, who applied and who didn't apply) is all in their data base so it shouldn't be that hard to do it on-line. Give us all to a certain date to purchase then sell the remaining on first come basis. Same as going to the vendor but online. Seems easy to me but she seemed hesitant like something else was in the works. Super nice lady and very helpful but I hung up feeling like the possibility of these tags becoming available could leave us hanging for awhile.  :(

Did you previously buy your tag prior to the draw? Do you have a tag to surrender?

I had to call WDFW first, then went into a Walmart, the clerk had to call WDFW, WDFW enabled my MS deer tag to be purchased after they confirmed the clerk had my Gen deer tag in his hand, then my MS deer tag was purchased. It only took 5-10 minutes to do.

Cant buy the extras until Aug 22 I believe and you have to surrender your elk or deer tag at a dealer before you are able to purchase.

I also believe it starts at 10am for elk and deer 10 min later.

You also need to have previously put in for the tag draw and not been drawn.

A little too much mail and not paying attention. I somehow never opened the envelope. So no deer tag. Called licensing and was able to get a ms tag.
Since I am having surgery, hunting is out until the 3rd or 4th week of October. So no early hunts. Hunts in November look promising.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

"The next sequential 115 hunters on the original official draw list of elk multi-season tags will have an opportunity to buy those remaining tags.  The existing official draw list from April is being used to prevent large group gatherings at retail locations during the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep opportunity fair."

I basically like this new approach also, but I guess I'll never purchase a left over Multi Elk four years in a row as I once did.  That said, this does create an issue for some hunters, myself included.  Since I didn't draw the Multi tag this year, I then went on and put in for my draws.  I drew a "team" Modern Firearm Antlerless Elk" tag.  Great news for me, but now I have an issue.  I sure as heck don't want to draw that multi tag now and burn all my points up.

So, I just got off the phone with WDFW, "Dan" was a nice fella, and he put a ticket in on my profile so that if I am one of the 115 that get notified I can call back with my ticket number and resolve it after the fact.  Hope that wouldn't "burn" a tag for someone, but I don't want to "burn two tag" on my in one year.

:yeah:  I think my odds just went down too.  I like it being fair for everyone.    Do you lose your points if you're one of the 115?  Hoping I get the chance either way.

they aren't doing a redraw. They are just going down the list from the original draw. you do not lose your points.

Good point, I knew I never lost my points when I purchased the left over, but I guess I just wasn't thinking clear being they were just going back to the original draw list.  So I jumped the gun and my point should be mute.  Must be to close to seasons now, seems to be all I'm thinking about these days, damn I want to get back on that mountain.  Good luck everyone.
