Green mountian
« on: August 17, 2020, 10:48:15 AM »
Hello, just curious if anyone has hunted Green Mountain off mountain loop/530. Im pretty new to hunting just got into it last year and ive been 'e scouting' all over and trying to drive out and actually scout the areas I find but have had no luck. I really want to eat some bear this year. Any thoughts and opinions on this area are greatly appreciated thanks.

There are definitely bears there, and cats too.  I think the best bet with all the target shooting that goes on up there would be go to the top (4110 Rd) where the road is blocked and hike the ridge line East from there.  I believe the road up to Canyon Creek  (41 Rd) is closed right now through the end of September for logging and or road work.  That cuts off a lot of access and is going to push lots of folks towards the ridge for shooting.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

I have never hunted it but have shot there many times over the years. The last time I was there (15+ years ago) I was nearly killed by a group of idiot target shooters.  Buddy and I had to belly crawl back to the truck as bullets whizzed past our heads. This can happen anywhere, however with the switchback nature of the road it tends to "Hide" people and their shooting spots. That said, I know of guys taking bear out of there. Good luck and be safe...also wouldn't leave anything of value in the rig of course.

Thanks for the tip. Usually only have my chainsaw with me when I go up unfamiliar forest service roads but i always chain it up inside my truck. That sounds pretty sketchy with people shooting at random spots up there. Hopefully there wont be many shooting up there with the current state of ammo lol

Flew over Green mountain today in a Bell 407 helicopter for my birthday present amongst other locations in the area. I was trying to spot a bear but it was late in the day. It’s a very popular area to see bears, lots of wild blueberries up there. Be prepared to come across the usual non hunter types. Also spotted a fresh wildfire, from the night before lightning, trying to take off a ridge over. One of the best birthday gifts ever.

I would love too but my scouting was limited today in a helicopter and it was more like sightseeing than scouting. You really just need to go up there and look around, it’s pretty straight forward. Good luck to you.

I have been on those roads plenty of times over the years and would not trust leaving a vehicle parked anywhere there.

Last winter a friend parked his truck there while riding in his brothers Jeep, he came back to his truck shot up

We may be talking two different Green Mt's here.  I believe the one th OP is referring to is accessed off of Mt. Loop about 8 miles east of Granite.  I think the one you are referring to is North East of Darington up off of the Suiattle River Rd.

Yeah, the one off of Suiattle is the one I was talking about since he referred to highway 530. I’m sure there’s bears off the mountain loop green mt. as well, they are everywhere. Unfortunately so are the hikers on every trail everyday of the week.

I can tell you that i have a repeater site on Green Mt above Verlot and 7 out of the last 10 years I replaced solar panels, antennas and coax from being shot up.
