"Legal" Elk in your hunting area
« on: August 17, 2020, 10:59:54 AM »
What's considered a "legal" elk in the area you'll be hunting this year? Additionally, what is your personal threshold or goal for your area? Just sparking some elky conversation, it's getting closer  ;)

3pt or better or cow in the units I’ll be hunting(muzzleloader). I usually buy a tag but decided I’m finally going to get somewhat serious about it this year. I’d be happy with any legal animal.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Any elk where will be trying to fill my old man's tag. He has never killed an elk with his bow so there will be a lot of factors in what he is willing to shoot. I have my own thoughts but this is his hunt and I am just there to help in whatever way I can.

OR archery area is "any elk", but we try to focus on the herd bull as there are not many hunters that go where we go after this small herd so we usually have some time.  But if there is a cow at close range, it will be harvested.

WA muzzy elk is 3pt min, and as heavily hunted as that backcountry area gets....the first legal bull gets the shot.

Spike or draw cow, both options open for me. Standing side x side I'd take the spike.

In WA this year 3 point minimum, ID is any elk.
A bad day out hunting is better than a good day at work!

Any elk is the rule. Any elk is my wife's directive; maybe I won't tell her about the broadside cow that I pass for a chance at the bugling bull.  :dunno:

Any bull, multiple states. Any bull that gets fired up enough to fall for my setup is the one I want
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
