Hottest Hole on the Lower Puyallup
« on: August 17, 2020, 01:45:26 PM »
We have fished for Salmon in this Fishing Hole coming up on 40 years now. Back in the day alongside many of our Hunting Washington friends, it was one of the rivers best kept secrets.
(In my opinion it's been one of the best holes for Fishing Salmon Runs on the Lower Puyallup.)

It used to be that only the privileged few could reach this hole by crossing private property and you really got "The Inquisition" treatment by those who felt they "owned the river" if you weren't recognized by them right away.  :o  :chuckle:
But times have changed for the better and now there is an easy Public Access to this Secret Hole,
if you know where to look.

Park alongside "Houston Rd East" at about 129th Ave East, (just west of "The Old Cannery" Furniture Store) in Puyallup.
The secret is not to fish where you park, but walk or ride your bike downstream on the Pierce County Dike Dirt Trail, about a third of a mile to the hole at 119th Ave East..... This is where the Schools will be waiting.
There is plenty of room to target the large numbers of Fish that still stack up in the Hole.

These "Silver Bullets" fresh out of the Saltwater (with Fish Lice still hanging on), keep drawing me off my Couch and like so many Salmon Seekers of the past, we continue to make some outstanding catches.
Looking forward to seeing you down there again as the run gets back into full swing.
(I'll be the one with a big smile as I'm tossing it out toward the far bank.  ;)

I always wondered how to fish that section and saw tons of people there every year.  Thanks.

I live in Puyallup and although tempting I wont fish the Puyallup.  Little too crowded, and prefer not to have my truck broken into.  Minus those two things I would get my FLOSS on any day.  I fished so much in the salt this year I am looking forward to hitting the river.  Mine just aint ready yet.  No more launch headaches, washing gear, flushing motors, washing the boat.

That’s also the most crowded hole! Fished there and there’s a group of guys there that think they own that hole! The hole below the river road bridge is way better IMO. King and silver central!

That's the main reason I always stayed away from the Puyallup.  I don't find that enjoyable.

Lots of great memories on the Puyallup and Carbon, never cared for the lower river though.

What I find funny about this post I’d imagine if someone posted about a hunting spot people would have a meltdown , and the certain people getting upset   Aren’t some of the land owners that always have trespassers getting to this specific spot ? I don’t fish the Puyallup  for other reasons. But I like sharing my 2 cents

Not sure if anyone else has fished the Fraser River in BC, but it can be just as crowded (probably more).  There just isn't any drama, and your car doesn't get broken into.  No one claiming a hole, and no fist fights. Wonder why that is...

I'm pretty sure it's because it's illegal to fight in Canada unless you have hockey skates on.

I've been in many combat fisheries in WA and AK.  Some are friendly, some are not, all depends on where the majority of fishermen come from.  Some places are just frequented by people with different ideas on fishing and how to interact with fellow human beings.
