When we got up Friday morning the air quality was better so we drove to the glassing spot, we saw two rams and 25 ewes and eventually found the rams we were looking for there were 8 rams feeding a little past midway up the canyon so we made a plan to drive around and come at them form above.

When we got to the top we glassed down at them and could see they had bedded down on one of the small fingers
It was time to go.

The darker rams are the more mature ones

Any word on how the sheep fared in the northern part of the unit?  I drove through on Friday and it looked pretty ugly. Son has the youth tag.

We got in above the rams... the rangefinder read 361 yards so I set up for the shot.

I debated on weather or not to shoot him in his bed and decided it was doable. A 15lbs rifle Shooting 300gr bullets tends to inspire a lot of confidence... not your normal sheep gun 😅

One shot and he rolled maybe ten feet out of his bed.

I am not sure we looked for sheep around Umtanum ridge but didn’t see them in the normal spots.
