Clockum bull tag drawn
« on: August 20, 2020, 07:38:17 AM »
I been drawn for the clockum bull tag. I’ve hunted this area for 20 year but mostly the quilemene. I’m looking for advise to other drainages to look for large bulls. I don’t need your honey hole just a good area to start

grab a map or onX. Roads all over the place. There is elk from 97 to the Columbia. Shouldn’t be to hard to find a good bull if you put a little time in!
Happiness is being in the woods!!!

Yes I agree. I have onX and other maps. Also have been up there the last 3 weekends. It’s archery so any advantage would help that’s all. Definitely not a lazy hunter here.

Sadly my first hard horned bull was seen coming out in the back of a white pickup.  But....I saw a gigantic 7x7 typical on that side that I am dieing to film.   They are gathering cows, no bugling while I was there.   No more deets. Just enjoy the tag of a lifetime

So you saw someone take a bull up there already this year? In August?

The white pickup....... that's probably not his bull this year.

Colokum is heavily hunted by the Indian tribes that are allowed to.

My buddy and I also drew so will be there. It was an exciting rut last year cow hunting so looking forward to it.

If you know Quilomene well, don't overlook it. There will be some good bulls in there.

And to second what others have said, there are elk in every drainage pretty much. It's a matter of finding where they are concentrated to find where all the bulls are going to end up.

I wouldn't say a particular area holds bigger bulls than others. 360+ bull is a trophy in there with a bow.

I'd say 300+ is a good goal with limited scouting. It's a quality area with lots of bulls, but lots of good bulls which is just fine with me! This is my first time ever hunting branched antlered bulls, so not going to shoot for the moon on this one.

We can sync up and compare notes as we get closer to the season, I'm happy to help.

They're in there!

No details as it's a buddy's trail cam but this dude should be pure motivation for anyone that drew that area

I had the rifle tag there last year. Was fortunate to tag out on a bull that I rough scored at 312. Not the biggest 1 on the mountain but how everything went down and the gorgeous sunset after is something ill never forget.   Would have never guessed my buddy and I would witness 2 bulls going at it with 20 or so cows.  My bull i believe was pushed back out and the other bigger bull took his cows to bed. I scouted my tail off all last summer and my favorite hunt still was with my best friend on his archery cow/spike hunt.3 days of absolute mayhem with bulls and cows in every drainage we glassed.  Luck would have it he drew an archery any bull tag this year!!! In 10 short days we will be back in there for hopefully another hunt of a life time. !!!

Hi! I drew the muzzleloader bull tag and have never hunted the colockum before, we have been scouting but any tips after your archery hunt is over would be much appreciated ☺️☺️

PM me to remind me before your hunt! Happy to share where we were seeing them. Going to be interesting to see what the heat and cow permit only will do to the pressure this year. Muzzy tag is an exceptional tag, but the dates aren't as great as years past for rut activity, but they still should be bugling some.

Need mother nature and smart rec users to be in the woods this week, scary for fires.

Thank you I appreciate it!
It’s definitely an interesting year with the fires and the heat so we will see what happens. I drew the little naches modern bull tag a few years ago so I’m excited to see how the colockum compares, so far it’s looking great. Good luck to you this season!
