I-1639 training cert question
« on: August 21, 2020, 09:06:34 AM »
Has anyone used the online certification from Sporting Systems for compliance with I-1639 when purchasing a scary black rifle? I am purchasing one from a friend, and am curious if this certification is all I will need? Thanks for any info.

I've taken it. No one will check to see if you taken it. This is the statement on their site:

You are not required to show proof of training when purchasing a semi-automatic rifle, only attest under penalty of law that you have completed a course which covers the required topics.

Technically yes, this is all the certification you need besides the background check.

you will need to show your certificate when buying an AR.  Either have a paper copy or a picture on your phone.

Why only an AR? Aren't all semi-automatic rifles the same under this new law? Such as a Ruger 10/22?

Ok, thanks for the info. I did take the Sporting System course back in December and have a printed copy of completion if needed. Coworker mentioned doing the transfer at Federal Way Discount Guns, and after looking at their web page they have a link to the Sporting System certification so I think I am good to go.

Probably depends on the store.  I have purchased and had to show no proof.

 :yeah: :yeah:

Different stores have different policies.  Bi-Mart in East Wenatchee will not let you look at a gun (any gun) if you do not have proof.....I watched it with my own eyes  :bash: :bash:.  Other stores will not ask for it and do not care about it.  If they do, they will ask you to attest that you completed a course.  it is a complete cluster, exactly what our liberal communist government wanted.  Another layer of stupid and frustration to keep people from purchasing firearms.   :bash: :bash: :bash:

Check with the FFL you plan to purchase from if they will accept that certificate and if they require proof.  Found a few that really question the online ones and others that don't.
