I am thinking of leaving my camera up in a way out of the way place threw the winter. Grab it next year.

I left one for close to a year but not on purpose, just didn't get around to grabbing it. Batteries were dead and card was full

I've had one out for 8 years now. It's placed on a tree right next to a fallen tree that has the map I used to mark where I put it as well as a nalgene bottle. I remembered where I put three out of the four when I went back 6 months later and noticed the map wasn't in my hunting stuff.

I accidentally left one for a year. I pulled all of them right before season started last year or so I thought. And when I went to hang them back up this spring I found that I had actually left one out over the winter. It only took pictures for about four months before it glitched out and stopped for some reason. It was kind of cool having it out during hunting season though. There was some very close encounters between elk and hunters and it really did not seem like the hunters were in stalk mode like they had a Clue that the Elk had just passed in front of them within minutes

I leave mine up year round. Start checking them once a month when the snow lifts until the snow won't allow me to anymore than repeat the next year.

Try to do overwinter cams every year. The higher elevation ones will hang for 9 months due to snow not allowing access.

I leave them up over winter all the time. Have had cams hanging for several years in multiple locations. One i was going to check today has been up over 5 years.

I plan to leave one out over winter too. Hoping to get a few months worth of photos but we’ll see. I’m guessing the batteries will drain quite a bit faster in the cold

Get lithium batts, put a 16gb card in, 1 min timer. Will last well over a year if the place isn’t pounded

I've got sixteen out. They stay out year round, and are still taking pictures when I check them a year later. Some I only get to every other year, depending on whether I'm currently hunting an area or not.

I have a dumb question about the cards
What does that little lock switch on the side do?
Leave it on lock or not?

Lock it if you don't want your pics deleted or the card to be formatted.

I’ve had 2 that quit working because I left them out over winter. The one I left out last winter was fine tho.. it took pics for 11 months.

What is the average snowfall where you guys leave your cams over the winter? And how much activity do you get compared to the rest of the year? The places I have a couple get to much snow for any activity so I just pull them in Nov.

It’s all year dependent. Some cams are buried for two months then start working again as soon as the snow melts. You’d be surprised at what you see in mid jan with 3-4’ of snow. Area dependent on winter activity as well. Some cams I get nothing for 4 months. Others I have critters moving the whole time, year round, no matter the conditions.

For me its mostly Bobcats and bunnies all winter. I get anywhere from 3-6' of snow. But what is nice is when the snow starts melting and the normal critters start showing up before I can get to the camera's. I had a sow and 2 cubs on cam this year in the middle of April in about 2 ft of snow. Some does in January in 3-4 ft of snow. Was probably rock hard cause they weren't sinking.

Overwinter cam pics, older Bushnell with 4 Kirkland AA, 32g card, cam high in tree, 6500' elevation, 9months in tree, only snow pics from late December till the wolverine came thru. (pic 2)
Check out the snow level difference, dates are correct.
