my Dad just called me and he already got a 10" Tom with his homemade smooth bore flint lock.  I'll post a pic when he sends it to me.

That's cool. I created all the 2009 galleries last night so there is some empty space for it.

Great looking bird, congrats to your Dad.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

I will find out more about the gun.  I know he made it years ago and has shot several toms with it.  Here is
the info he gave me along with the pictures.

"The muzzle loader was loaded with 90 grains of double f black powder and 90 grains by volume of number 6 shot.  Shot at 22 steps, a lot of pellets in head and neck.
The bird had a 10 inch beard, only one spur of about 1/2 inch."

more info on his gun for Buckhorn2

"It is a 12 gauge built from a barrel blank that had to be shortened to 36 inches, polished, breeched, have the sight made, rib installed and wedge and loop made, and browned.  It is cylinder bore, no choke,  so I use a plastic shot cup.  I use 90 grain of black powder 2 ff, and 90 or 100 grain volume of number 6 or 5 lead shot.
The stock was a maple board I bought and carved.  The side plate, butt stock and trigger guard I welded up.  The Siler lock and trigger are boughten. The forearm cap is melted and poured tire weight.

I have shot I believe 6 turkeys with it."

EastWAViking: There must be a great story associated with this bird, what with the Flilntlock and all. Let me know how you took it. I'm compiling all the Turkey hunting stories from the Hunt-WA site into a booklet. Pretty good reading so far. I'd love to have your story. I'll make the document available to everyone on the site towards the end of the season.
