Help with Garmin InReach mini
« on: September 10, 2020, 09:28:34 PM »
Wife got me a mini for a anniversary gift. Been getting it dialed in but got some questions.
About messages.

There is Preset messages (3)
Quick text messages (20)
Custom messages

I have no problem sending quick or custom messages.

But I cannot get preset messages to go to my wife.
With the other two it asks you to select a contact but not with preset. On the mini.

Any ideas?

However I get the preset messages in my email.

Recipients for preset messages are set in advance.

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=a3krtOfff94EYAQawlq3w8

5. Enter the recipients
You can enter email addresses, SMS numbers or inReach addresses. SMS numbers must be entered as (minus the brackets): +[Country Code][SMS number]
Separate each number or address with a comma. For example: fake@garmin.com, +18008001020
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

And if you haven’t already... be sure to download the Earthmate app to your phone. Sure beats trying to write messages one letter at a time.

Anyone ever set their InReach to be a recipient as well just so you know 100% the messages go through?

Yeah, but there is always a chance it could get fouled up between the satellite, earth and through the Garmin computers out to e-mail.  I can be a bit paranoid for sure.

Yeah I down loaded Earthmate.............but I don’t own a smart phone. I downloaded to my IPad. Yeah I know forces have been trying to drag me into the smart phone club. My work provides my cell phone and I have always had a brick. 27 years no cell bill. I could upgrade but the brick is like a tank so I am going to keep till I leave this job next year.

I wouldn’t carry a phone while hunting anyways.

I did that with my spot. But not with the mini yet.

Now that I have a week with the mini, I am liking it.
