2020 Dove season/success?
« on: September 04, 2020, 11:44:30 PM »
Who has been out, I missed the opener, it was HOT and a rarer year,,,it's now the 5th. of September, Mourning doves should be heading south very soon. PLEASE let me hear your Exps. in the early Morning or an Evening hunt & what type of terrain you hunted in. I do NOT want to know were, but a county would be good... I  have a Cabin out of Coulee City but could NOT make it there as of now BUT next week...
Thanks ALL for any in-put!

Hunting public ground, we have been out 3 evenings. We got 7 on the opener, and 7 more 2 days later and zero last night. I have been scouting for a hot field, but I haven't even found one to ask permission on. I know there are birds, but man I am having a tough time (as usual) getting on them.

Opener was pretty slow and it was hot. Not a lot moving around. Hit 3 or 4 different spots. Of course we saw tons when we took a mid day break and played a round of golf.

Thanks for any and all reports folks! Remember things have changed SOO much since I have hunted doves, {12 years now} UGGG!  :dunno: Now there IS a ton of Collar's out and about, BUT Its all about the migritory's They are here at the opener then GONE tommorrow! BUT I see a BIG road-block on the pacific Fly-way,,, Smoke and Fires, hey they may stick around and go full circle  :yike: from Wa. to southern Or. then turn back for a spell. What a rough time they will have this season.

I missed the opener but got out 2 days later for a morning hunt. Limited in 2 hours. Birds seem to fly not a first light but about an hour or so after. Find the roost and wait for them to return from breakfast. This was in Central Wa.

The collars where in with the morning doves. I didn’t notice as many as in years past. As a shotkam newbie i got video but nothing worth saving or posting. Made a few adjustments for next time. We got 3 banders on that hunt FYI.

I see at least 4 Collard's in your bag, 3 of which are squabs,,, SOO you did NOT limit on Mournings which is 15 a day. No Limit on Collard's either. A good day indeed no matter what. Good Ramaki! Yummm!

Granted I was hunting about 500 miles East of Coulee City. I had a great first few days of Dove hunting. My only complaint was there were no other hunters in the area to keep them moving. It was taking about an hour for a limit of 15 birds.
A few of the dogs had a great time retriving them.

I figured with yesterday's cold front the Dove would be long gone.  This evening went to run a dog or two and the back field was full of them. Took the Shorthairs back to the house grabbed a Springer and a shotgun and popped a limit in about 30 minutes. This is Allie with her half.

Doves from the past....  Six limits in a couple hours along the Yakima River in the lower valley.    kinda miss shooting at those little rockets
