First time hunter, need advice on hunt location
« on: September 12, 2020, 12:47:50 AM »
Hi all,

I'm a first time hunter this year, planning a rifle elk hunt.  Anyone have any suggestions on what gmu I should start out with in Western WA?  I'm planning to hunt Roosevelt elk so I know to hunt somewhere on the coast, I just don't know what's the best place to start.  Any suggestions/advice appreciated.  Thanks!

Try GMU 673
3pt or better bulls
walk some gated roads
Good luck

Start E scouting from your home. If you want it take e-scouting Online class. Then put boots on the ground

Get out and start looking, The GMU isn't important, there is elk in every GMU in SW Washington and the Olympic peninsula. I suggest staying close to home so that you have time to scout more. Just get out there and drive/walk places and look for elk sign. Start now and by the time the season comes you will have a few ideas of where you can find elk.
