Colockum Archery 7x8 Bull
«

A good friend of mine asked me back in June if I would like to help with his Colockum Archery Bull tag. Of course I said “Hell yeah!” My dad also joined us.
We had one hell of an opening day! Starting on Friday afternoon when we pulled into camp the bulls were going nuts thru the night and into the morning. We had at least 8-9 different bulls screaming and got in between two of them right away. One pushed his cows into us but no shot. The other one was a big boy and wouldn’t leave his cows. In fact he stole several from the other bull. We moved a bit and towards a couple other bulls that were screamin. Found an old guy that was only a 5 point. As we were watching him about 80 yards out a giant cougar came flying in and chased him off. The bull made a big circle and came right back to the same spot and bedded down. My buddy made a stalk on him from 135 yards out. Got to 40 yards and the bull stood up. He only had a small window thru the trees and he stuck one of them! We headed out to get some lunch and ran into a big herd with several bulls. We kept after them but they pushed out ahead of us. We spotted about 35 cows feeding and bedded down with a big bull that was screaming his head off and doing this really cool grunt. Almost sounded like a bear chomping his jaw. We decided to go to camp and grab some water since we weren’t too far away. It was warm and started getting smoky so we needed a recharge. My dad stayed out and kept an eye on the herd. He circled and got on the south end of them and we came in from the north. We found a spot we thought they would come thru and waited and waited. We had 2-3 hours of bulls bugling back and forth with the big bull. My dad had a bull come in to within 30 yards with a few cows but he didn’t stick around. The big bull with his cows started filtering to the south so my dad got in front of them and made himself known. They all turned and walked right towards us. My dad filmed the herd as they went over the crest and the bull gave him one more bugle. Dad didn’t realize we were just over that crest and I was also filming. They weren’t spooked and just started filtering past us at 45 yards. All the cows and calves and then came the bull. Neither of us even looked at horns. My buddy drew back his long bow and let it fly at 45 yards slightly uphill!! Oh did I mention a Long Bow!!! Double lunged him and he only went 40 yards!! 7x8 DOWN!!!
We had the best day of hunting! Great friends, family, camp, hunting, and just an awesome experience!! We are going to have an awesome short film after we get all the footage together. He had never been on a hunt with bulls bugling like that and has never harvested a bull. He’s waited a long time to draw that tag and it paid off big time. We feel blessed to be a part of it and can’t wait to draw that tag!!!
