Timber company - green diamond

Anyone else got permit here and hunted it? Any good for deer? Looking at timber company options and curious about this one

I did not think Green Dot required a permit?  OR maybe only for certain areas?  Been a few years but place I used to deer hunt was greendot and it was all access..

Yes, Green Diamond now does require a permit for access, at least for all of their land that I know of. Their biggest block is in Mason county, I believe.

I bought a key there a couple years ago and found it pretty frustrating if you want to do anything other than road hunting.  Roads everywhere and can't count the number of times i thought I'd found a good spot only to have a truck with a couple guys looking out the windows slowly driving through.  A lot of deer, though, and I think a lot of those guys had success, just not what I was looking for.

Green Diamond has smaller parcels in E. Mason and other counties that they allow free access on.  I hunt on them occasionally, so I'm sure this is correct.  The big parcels that have elk and deer have pay to play access.  That's my understanding.

Funny story about the green diamond property, though.  I was still/slow hunting for deer through a 3 foot high or so clearcut of mostly wild flowers, grass, etc., and I must have been doing a pretty good job of being stealthy and playing the wind, because I unexpectedly came face  to face (probably less than 10 feet) with ten or so elk that had bedded down in the field.  Big f'ing bull stood up and gave me the stink eye, as I almost *censored* myself.  Rifle elk season was still a few weeks away. Elk are even bigger up close when you've got deer on the mind...

I've lived that experience, except it was on DNR land.  Bull stood up at 10 feet......

I'm gonna be hunting on green diamond permit land again this year.

Spent my first year deer hunting on green diamond land up by Matlock. Decent land, saw my first deer while in the field up there but couldn't see antlers because it was so early and dark still. 

Went up to some non-permit green diamond land last year at the suggestion of a fellow I used to work with at the WA DOC and he got me on a great spot, almost got my first buck up there a couple miles south of mason lake. Didn't get my gun up in time unfortunately! Probably for the best though as it was a 9 mile hike back to my truck.

This year though I'm hoping to target the southern reach of what they have on their permit land map... hoping for better results closer to home. Driving from Tenino all the way to Shelton to get into the field before sunrise was a drag!

Edit: I will note I have only gotten the walk in permit from green diamond, and as a result I've stuck to the areas with hike in only gates to avoid the drive in permit folks driving through. Only a handful of the gates are walk in only compared to the motorized access it seems, so plan accordingly!

I bought their motorized permit this year after doing the vail thing the past 3. They seem friendlier than weyco, you can target shoot on their property too.

What else sold me on their pass is the ability to get access to their mason lake campground, and they have parcels down in 501 that back up to areas I’ve already hunted for years.

Downside is that their permit didn’t go active until September 1st, so that cut out scouting and the first part of bear season for me. Got a multi season tag this year, so I should get plenty of time in the woods regardless.
