17 Mach 2
« on: September 17, 2020, 07:33:17 PM »
Any opinions on the 17 Mach 2 round? For some reason I think I need a bolt action rifle chambered in said round. I have a Kimber 1911 chambered in it and it's a lot of fun for plinking up close but wonder what it's like out a ways.

They sure are proud of rifles chambered in 17Mach 2, Kimber sure made a beauty years ago and the Remington 504 is really nice but pricey. Anyone have any experience with the Savage or Marlin guns?

I don’t have it in that chambering, but in .308 savage, .22 lr, and 17 hmr Marlin. No complaints here.

I think Eric Mayer (Varminter.com) has tested and reviewed a couple different rifles in 17 Mach2 so maybe take a look over there.  Eric actually shoots the heck out of the rifles he is sent to do reviews on and is always pretty straight forward with his likes/dislikes of them.  He probably spends as much time traveling around shooting small game with multiple different rimfires than anyone I know.  If you want I can pm you his contact info and you can reach out to him for advice on a purchase.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I think I'll just buy one, seeing as I have the pistol I think "I owe it to myself" to get the rifle! I really like the Kimber SVT but they are as rare as hen's teeth and spendy! I got out bid on GB a couple weeks ago on a NIB rifle, I quit at $1500.00 I'm looking at Savage, Marlin, CZ and Remington if I can find one for the right price.

If you wanted something really high end and different from most all others you could buy one of the Vudoo rifles chambered in 17HM2 or you could have one built off the new RimX action from Zermatt Arms.  Either would be expensive but they'd be top of the line and you wouldn't have to worry about many others having the same thing as you.

Zermatt Arms is still working the bugs out of the RimX action for the 17 WSM and if it works out well it could very well be my next build.

B23, I've checked out both actions, they look really nice, but spendy. I'm contemplating getting a complete rifle, torn between the Raven and Sinister! I'm a southpaw and they make a LH action so that's a plus.

Vudoo, though expensive, makes some very nice stuff and they seem to really have things figured out so I doubt you could go wrong with either, but for me, I'd go with the Sinister over the Raven.

I've talked to Mike Bush a couple times and Vudoo as a company is great about discussing likes/dislikes and options as to what will best suit you so don't be afraid to give them a call.
