A family treasure comes home

About 18 years ago my grandfather passed away. He left my stepdad his Colt Diamondback .22 revolver. To me, my grandfather is/was the greatest human being that has ever walked this planet. This gun was probably my favorite gun that he owned. I’m not gonna lie, it going to my stepdad was not my idea of awesome . Anyway fast forward 18 years. My stepdad was up for a visit last weekend from Arizona and he brought the gun. Gave it to me. Said he always felt like I should have had it back then, and now he was making it right. I was speechless. Original box still there even.

Side note I’ll be shopping for a right handed holster for it soon. My pop was a southpaw so the holster it came with won’t work for me. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears. I’d like to stick with something leather that fits the gun. No plastic, kydex etc.

I'm not that big on revolvers but there is something about 4in Colts that just look cool as hell to me and that one is no different.  Very cool story and sweet looking piece!

Don't buy a pre-made holster, spend the money and have a custom made holster, it's worth it.  Make sure that you leave the trigger guard open on the holster, it just looks better.

Thanks for all the good words. Happy to have it home with me. I can’t wait to try and shoot some grouse with it. My grandfather wouldn’t want it sitting in a safe.

Not sure if he makes style you'd be interested in but Kramer makes some really nice stuff and it's very durable.  Wasn't for a revolver but he made me a holster for my HK P7M8 20+ years ago and it still looks new.  His prices aren't cheap so be prepared for a little sticker shock but his stuff is very well made and he's in Wa.

I bot a nice leather holster for my 686 from this guy four years back on Ebay. Quality stuff at a reasonable price. Goes by "holsters82". I don't see any thing listed right now but looks like he is still around...give it a few days until he lists something and you can ask him about a holster for your treasured piece.

What a great surprise! Depending on what style of holster, I have two Galco holsters and they're great. John Bianchi makes some nice western-style holsters that I would think about if I had a wheel gun, but I have no first-hand knowledge of his work.

Forgot to says good on your step dad.  There is one regret for me.  When my dad passed.  My brother and split the guns up.  His dad our grandfather was in Germany in WWII.  He brought back a Mauser 8MM sniper rifle and a Luger.  The   8mm was my brother's first deer rifle so of course it went to him.  I really wantes that Luger but I felt that both the 8mm and luger were a matching set so it went to my brother.  Long story short someone stoled the luger and a judge from him.  He figured it was someone his daughter knew because there was no break in.  Having guns in the family and keeping them in the family is a good thing.

 Great outcome! There is a veteran owned leather outfit in Lake Stevens. Wife showed me some pictures last night on facebook. Saw a dark chocolate basket weave that is beautiful. I happen to be one of Gods gifted few (lefty  ) and I too need a quality holster (2) that "fits" the look for my revolvers. I don't know if it's ok to post a facebook name on here but you can pm me for it.

Feel free to post it. I’ll probably hang onto this southpaw holster just because it was my pop’s and I also don’t think it was anything fancy. I’ll take a look into that veterans group.  Likely that’s where I’ll start my search. Hopefully it’ll end there too. Thanks.

I would have a conversation with Ron Wilson Custom Leather, look him up.  I have seen some of his leather work, I'm not sure if he would do a holster though?
