What length, power, action, weight rating rods do you guys use for backtrolling plugs in the river for steelhead? Also what brand and model?

fs83c topped with 5500Ds. Worked 40 years ago, still works today. My newer rods still are 8' or less. Easier to manage under trees.

I prefer 8'-ish and fiberglass. I'm partial to the original Lamiglas fiberglass XCF 801 or 802 if you can find used. Or the new carbon XCC 801 or 802.

Best plug rod I ever had was a St Croix bass crankbait rod! I think it was a blend of graphite and glass. Nice soft first 6”, but stiffened up quick after that. Only downside was the short butt. Sold it to a member here last summer. Landed a couple good sturgeon on it too!
