ENTIAT GMU 247 QUALITY DEER
« on: September 28, 2020, 03:11:52 PM »
First time up this way, I have been up and scouted a few spots. Any pointers? Ideas? Cannot believe how many roads are in this unit.

Use em to your advantage. Cover the country and glass glass glass. You got a rifle tag or archery?

Super fun hunt. Enjoy it and good luck.

I only hunted that unit one time. But when I was there, you could see this huge path where deer would come down out of the high country, and the guys I was hunting with said it was the migration path that the deer would take, but that it normally only happened during the quality tag time. So you might look into that. I think a lot of that migration has to do with snow in the high country.

 :yeah:

Glass glass and do some more glassing after you glassed. What tag do you have rifle or archery?

Rifle, I plan to make a few more trips before the season starts 11/1. Learn the roads some more and start glassing more. I appreciate all the input so far!

Bring the best glass you can and extra spotters if possible. A solid tripod to glass off of helps as well. Cover a lot of country and wait for the right buck, you'll see plenty.

A nice cold snap and some snow early up high will help get those bigger bucks moving down into the unit as well. Keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for what the weather will throw at you. The roads are in pretty good shape but it can change fast with a little snow in the steep spots.

I’m hoping for cold, I will be up at least 11/1-11/8...Hoping to have some something in the bag during that time.

Some of those roads wouldn’t be to fun in the snow I would imagine. Didn’t really glass much this last weekend just drove around a ton learning the roads and tagging some spots that seemed good on on-x.

Chains on all 4  and if you start sliding aim for the ditch and bank it instead of going over the edge. :yike:  Get in shape.  :dunno:  Those roads get pretty gnarly after a hard freeze or 2 and coming down in the dark is to say the least is an adventure. Have seen a few trucks piled up on the bad side of  OK. gulch  :bash:      Did i say get in shape.

Exactly well said all. Chains all around are a must. It can get nasty up there very very quickly! Pray for snow! I had the late archery tag last year and had the time of my life! Such a fun hunt, you will see several bucks every day. Enjoy and keep us posted. If you ever run into trouble or a hairy situation give a shout out. I'm always willing to help and live in Wenatchee.

Here's someone trespassing on my road in that unit. About 1.5 miles up a private road. Yes, there are a lot of roads in that unit and many are private.  This was taken from my neighbor's cam. Not someone lost but a deliberate as it is posted from bottom to top as private. Best use OnX in the area.

Just to note, I'm a really nice guy and don't get riled up about much... except stealing and trespassing (another form of stealing).
