Idaho White Tail.
« on: October 12, 2020, 11:50:22 AM »
Any idea how far north on the west side of Idaho the White Tail Deer start to be common? I'm trying to see if they are close enough to Unit 32 to o make a long run worth while.  The daughter has never seen them before.
Thanks All.

You will really start to see them around Grangeville and Orofino, and then all points north.

If you come through Pullman/Moscow, I can point you to some good viewing spots!

Noted for future reference.  I'll have to put it down for a possibility next year.
Thanks again.

I've got family in Boise and Eagle and I feel like we see a good number of whitetail way down there. That doesn't jive with their map though so I could be wrong  :chuckle:

Just watch ag fields at dusk and you'll come across them.  Some fields in north ID had hundreds when we drove through last week.

How dare you challenge the experts with field observations?!  ;)  :chuckle:  It's hard enough for me to capture one deer- must be hard for a humble little map to capture all of them...

I think major rivers with cottonwood/willow stands, even surrounded by "mule deer habitat", will hold whitetails outside of their main distribution!

Pretty sure everything is WT habitat, and only some things are MD habitat :chuckle:

Saw one in 36 a couple years ago...
It is hard to follow one great vision in a world of darkness and of many changing shadows. Among these shadows men get lost.

There are a few, but mule deer probably outnumber them 100-1 down this way

I haven't seen any whitetails down this far. They in the lowlands, around farms?

I’ve seen a couple out around Harris ranch and warm springs, quite a few up 55 around horseshoe bend in the winter
