Looking to rehouse my purebred black lab.
« on: October 13, 2020, 01:42:25 PM »
Hi everyone, it is with tearful eyes I’m even writing this. I have a 6.5 yr old purebred black lab named Drake who needs a new home. He’s an inside family/hunting dog (waterfowl). I’m work shift work so Drake routinely is home for 24 hrs alone in a smaller yard. What Drake needs, a good loving person who has more time and will hunt, hike, fish, run and love on him. He was professionally trained by Conway Kennels in MT Vernon when he was 10 months old. Knows, heel (left side as I’m trying handed), here, sit, stay and doesn’t whine in the blind. He’s retrieved at least 75 ducks each of the last five seasons for me. He is normally very loving and easy going dog. He is socialized with other pets, mostly dogs. Neutered recently, 80 lbs comes from a home with two boys who are 11 and 13. Unfortunately, he was in my dorm room at work when someone tried to open the door, corner/keep him in the room and he bit her (two years ago). Also, this past week while I was gone elk hunting, he leap out of the GF’s SUV and bit the masked delivery driver as he walked up to the GF ( unsure if he thought he was protecting her or what ). I’m looking for a good home for him and reserve the right to make the decision your not a good fit for him. I’ll try and include pictures if I can get this to work. Please PM if you have any interests in meeting Drake. Thank you, Jeremy!

Hope this works out. My uncle is the owner of Conway Kennels so you can rest assured Drake has been well trained

I have a 2 year old female chocolate lab and an 8.5 year old male chocolate lab who developed a limp this off-season, which has turned out to be an inherited nerve problem in his spine that is expected to get worse.  We have pet insurance, so we're doing everything for him we can, but his hunting days are over.  Your post was very intriguing.  I own my own home with a 3/4 acre fenced yard and I usually work from home.  My wife and I are trying for our first kid right now, so when I forwarded your post to her, her concerns were the dogs aggression and how it would interact with a new baby.  Our 2 year old female lab is high energy and as affectionate as a lab gets so my wife's other concern was how the dogs would get along.  I think all of her concerns are valid, but not overcomeable.  I was wondering if you're on the west side and how far north or south?  We live in Des Moines near Burien.  If you can't find a suitable home, I think it may be worth a shot to see how he'd fit in our family pack.  I'd love to hear your thoughts.  If it doesn't work out, I wish you the best and hopefully you find a good home for him.

Tough decision for sure.  Have had labs for the past 37 years and have loved every one of them.  Sorry to hear you have to rehome him but there are plenty of people out there who will love/spoil him.  We currently have both rescue dogs and cats and they are well loved

Jakob, I sent you a text so we could talk.

Chesterdog, I’m sorry to hear about your older lab....that is rough. I like the thought of a large yard and other dogs for him to be around but have to agree with your wife’s concerns. My boys and I are all heartbroken over this. We live in Puyallup so we are fairly close by if you’d like to meet him.

Thank you for the kinds words and help everyone.

Sincerely,

Jeremy
