That cat was not backing down for sure. I wonder how far that was walking backwards. Always go armed in the woods.Sent from my SM-N976V using Tapatalk

I got a few new call ideas to try.
Wow. I hunt archery.... without a sidearm..... never again.
Winner of the walk backwards award, without falling. Stooping or bending over picking up rocks and appearing smaller may not have been the right thing to do with this perticular cat. It would be interesting to see if he had stopped backing up, would the cat stop advancing?

Always go armed in the woods.Sent from my SM-N976V using Tapatalk or start by throwing the rock right out of the gate Well, hitting them with a rock my or may not do anything. I was clearing some land, had a excavator, feeding the fire (the fire was about the size of a 2 car garage) a small dozer, gas powered fan blowing into the fire. I was staying though the night, watching and feeding the fire. A large cat came in and was walking around the fire, just in and out of sight (in the dark) screaming at me. I put my back to the fire, as close to the fire as I could stand, thinking if it jumps me, I am going to fall into the fire (fur burns and starting toughing rocks at it right out of the gate (I was unarmed). I pegged it right in the ribs with a golf ball sized rock, that was really trucking. It didn't even flinch, it was staring at me, and didn't even break it's stare. After that I went around the fire to the closest point to my truck, when the cat circled the fire and was opposite side of the fire from me. I walked to my truck and dove off, and left the cat to watch the fire. Gas fan still running. Point being... rocks may not work... Didn't work for me.
Once again, THIS GUYS option at the time was rock, stick, or nothing. My point was probably should have armed himself sooner. He did throw a rock and it snapped her out of her trance and sent her packing back to her babies. Which was a long ways back since he walked 6 miles backwards
I know this is going to sound odd, and we have the luxury of time to think, and second guess. These things happen quick in real life. But after thinking about it. I wonder what would have happened if he would have spread his arms and charged the cat. Reason I say, and what made me think about it. Back when I was a diver, I had a large shark circling me and didn't want to leave. I though, hmmm he's trying to figure out if I am a predator or prey. So I swam at the shark and tried to grab it, and it was gone in a flash when I did that. I wonder how this cat would have reacted to him trying to go after it and chase it. He talks about babies, and others have said it was a momma but I didn't see the kits in the vid, must have missed that. That would screw up the whole charge the cat. But if it was debating, food, or fellow killer.... Going after the cat might have made it run away. I know bold move and hard to do. But I really wonder what would have happened.

I can’t tell but I believe closer to him in the middle grass of road is another cub or he had a small dog with him.
I hunt with a pistol on my hip, figuring a bear or cat that wants me will probably have me before I ever come close to clearing the holster....... But I would have let the air out of that kitty. That would be scary as crap.
