Graphic language but that is amazing video.  Any idea what the backstory is?

No idea where it’s from.  But that the most persistent cat I’ve ever seen.

That cat was not backing down for sure. I wonder how far that was walking backwards.  Always go armed in the woods.

Winner of the walk backwards award, without falling. Stooping or bending over picking up rocks and appearing smaller may not have been the right thing to do with this perticular cat. It would be interesting to see if he had stopped backing up, would the cat stop advancing? :twocents:

I always carry.  Even late.  On nov 22 2017 i walked right smack into a large boar eating a deer.  Believe hed just stolen it from a pair of coyotes, one of which i shot.  That bear wasnt backing off at all.  He seemed kinda sluggish though, but man it was a spooky situation.  Bow hunting in early sept that year ran right into a sow with 2 cubs.  The cubs both ran past me and stopped no more than 30 yards away, putting me right between them and mom.  Didnt end up pulling the trigger in either situation, but looking back i damn well should have with how close they were, and given how protective bears can be about cubs and kills.  No reason not to carry.  Guys brag about the giant loads they can pack out, but a sidearm on your hip is a major burden?  Never made sense to me.

Well, hitting them with a rock my or may not do anything. I was clearing some land, had a excavator, feeding the fire (the fire was about the size of a 2 car garage) a small dozer, gas powered fan blowing into the fire. I was staying though the night, watching and feeding the fire. A large cat came in and was walking around the fire, just in and out of sight (in the dark) screaming at me. I put my back to the fire, as close to the fire as I could stand, thinking if it jumps me, I am going to fall into the fire (fur burns ;) and starting toughing rocks at it right out of the gate (I was unarmed).  I pegged it right in the ribs with a golf ball sized rock, that was really trucking. It didn't even flinch, it was staring at me, and didn't even break it's stare. After that I went around the fire to the closest point to my truck, when the cat circled the fire and was opposite side of the fire from me. I walked to my truck and dove off, and left the cat to watch the fire. Gas fan still running. Point being... rocks may not work... Didn't work for me.

I was thinking the same thing because he seemed to slow down some and that cat kept coming.  Stopping and bending down might have been a mistake.  So if I cat hint I should going screaming through the woods FU really loud.

well this guys option was a rock, a stick, or walk backwards. Id have been looking for a weapon long before that guy did.

 :yeah:

Those cats get kicked, bitten and hit by everytime they try to takedown food.
I would not want to bet my life on a few rocks. Plus if you squat to grab rocks, you could induce an attack.  :o
I suppose if you go unprepared into their territory, and rocks are all you have, well, i you are not lucky like this guy, you may be screwed.

That video should have last five seconds,
"OH $hit BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,BOOM, is it still moving, BOOM for good measure."

I did find the part where he stops swearing and starts trying to placate that cat a little humorous (since it ended without getting attacked)  :chuckle:

Last deer season I had a sow wild pig step out of the bushes 15 feet in front of me, and immediately turn my direction. She took a 300 WM to the forehead and dropped in her tracks.
By pure instinct, I also had my pistol out and ready to pump 12 more .40 cal rounds into her, if she twitched.
She didn't.

It happened so fast, I seriously did not have time to think about it.
I sure did after the fact though. Then the adrenaline shakes hit.  :o

Once again, THIS GUYS option at the time was rock, stick, or nothing. My point was probably should have armed himself sooner. He did throw a rock and it snapped her out of her trance and sent her packing back to her babies. Which was a long ways back since he walked 6 miles backwards  :chuckle:

I know this is going to sound odd, and we have the luxury of time to think, and second guess. These things happen quick in real life. But after thinking about it. I wonder what would have happened if he would have spread his arms and charged the cat. Reason I say, and what made me think about it. Back when I was a diver, I had a large shark circling me and didn't want to leave. I though, hmmm he's trying to figure out if I am a predator or prey. So I swam at the shark and tried to grab it, and it was gone in a flash when I did that. I wonder how this cat would have reacted to him trying to go after it and chase it.

He talks about babies, and others have said it was a momma but I didn't see the kits in the vid, must have missed that. That would screw up the whole charge the cat. But if it was debating, food, or fellow killer.... Going after the cat might have made it run away. I know bold move and hard to do. But I really wonder what would have happened.

At the very beginning it was in the middle of the road. It runs out of sight and what comes back is momma. I can’t tell but I believe closer to him in the middle grass of road is another cub or he had a small dog with him.

That’s a cub in the road that runs to the left. Momma was lying down in the grass in the middle of the road the entire time it looks like. I believe there are two cubs with momma kitty.

I hunt with a pistol on my hip,  figuring a bear or cat that wants me will probably have me before I ever come close to clearing the holster.......   But I would have let the air out of that kitty.

That would be scary as crap.

I hunt with a pistol on my hip,  figuring a bear or cat that wants me will probably have me before I ever come close to clearing the holster.......   But I would have let the air out of that kitty.

That would be scary as crap.

I think you would be surprised how fast you pull it.

Ive surprised myself a time or three in that regard  :chuckle:

I actually think he handled it pretty well. This is pretty much same thing that happened in northbend few years ago with different outcome. That cat followed them, left then came back a second time but they took off running.
