IDK?  First time hunting late mule deer in MT, but they were all over. A little different today. But, the conditions sucked. One of my partners did shoot a nice 5x5 muley late this am. Hopefully the snow dies down and we can see the deer tomorrow

Don't plan on buying any left over doe tags, they are sold out for Region 7, Broadus area. :bash:

You guys have much different conditions than I did.  I'm pulling smelly, sweaty sweatshirts out of bins and doing laundry.  I never did wear my late boots or puffy coat.

I had a honey hole for does, so I "saved" a bunch with a doe tag on top of my antelope draw.  Every year for 6-7 years, the does just come streaming out onto this field.  Perfect, I'll put another one in the freezer this year.

Sat two nights and watched buck after buck walk by and only two does.  I went from the scope to the gun about 10 minutes before shooting deadline and couldn't figure out which one was the doe (two spikes that looked very close to does were all mixing around together).  I didn't want to have to call the warden on myself, so pass.

Next day, no problem, adjusted makeshift blind position to be closer to their path so we would be on them sooner and have more light to see.
Huge bruiser buck with a limp walks out, then a solid buck a class smaller, the two forky twins, and another decent buck walked to 77 yards no does.....

I learned my lesson on frugality for sure.  It hurts a lot less putting an any deer tag on a doe than it does bringing a doe tag back home.

Good luck to you guys!

There was morning snow, wind and cold this morning. Snow let up and wind and cold the rest of the day in Broadus. Deer are in the private land fields in early morning and late afternoon. Doesn't seem to be any rut activity going on yet.

Wow 250 deer! Is that normal for Montana?
Some areas yes  . But you have to weed out alot of those Deer to find the one .

I'm just whining for fun, gonna be a blast. Buddy moved over last year so I'm getting exposed to some solid quality so far this year with the wet spring.
Good luck to all.

It may not be the best for hunting, but it sure is nice not having to pack gloves, coat, big boots and then dry everything out every night.  I forgot how easy it is to move around when you aren't bundled up like the Stay Puffed man.

We’re in eastern Montana now. Tagged out on bucks and does. Mule deer are starting to chase. Bucks with does all over.

Heading over Friday AM, just in time for the Pineapple Express  :bash:

Forgot to mention you should call it chinook winds if you want to sound like a local.  Pretty common, especially in central MT for wind changes from the south to warm stuff up.  One year I skied at -20 one Saturday and +60 the next Saturday.  I was hoping to get a 100 degree swing before I graduated college, but only managed 80.
