Has anyone got a Griffin Armament? They make a 338 suppressor that weights 12.7 ounces and sells for $995. Where the TBAC I was looking at is 16.9 ounces and sells for $1795.

I have a Griffin Armament GP-7 .308 can rated to .300 RUM. Works great.

You will have to decide which one you are going to go with before you can start anything as the serial number is required. I have a Sico Omega 300 for my rifles and it is a great can. It makes everything tolerable to shoot without earpro. My Deadair Mask is an amazing rimfire can and I highly suggest it. Still waiting for my Sico Omega 45k for my pistols, in fact I just called the ATF today to check on the status. Wait times are hit and miss, one took 10 months while the other was 2.5 months. It varies and they will tell you that the range is 7-10 months. I'd suggest a centerfire can that can cover everything you want to suppress for a first purchase, kind of a jack of all trades. And then look at others that might work better for specific applications.

I have a few now and absolutely love them. The .22 cans are a kick in the butt, with subsonic rounds they are airgun quiet. For my hunting rifle I have the SilencerCo Harvester. It's relatively hearing safe and I did see a noticeable tightening of my groups with the suppressor on.

So have you guys seen the "gas filters" on sale on facebook?  All you do is drill out the hole on the end and bam, it's a suppressor.  I realize they are illegal once you drill the hole, but my question is, if you drill the hole, put a serial number on it and send it in for a federal stamp, would it then be legal?  These things are cheap as hell, $64 dollars compared to 1,000+.

Look up FORM 1 silencers. Ive built a few.  You can buy that kit, file for a stamp, and in a month or less have a serial number for it and then drill it out, legally.

I think you need to be a Title 2 manufacturer...

Looks like you need a Type 7 FFL plus Class 2 SOT.  I'm not an attorney, but it sounds like a significant amount of paperwork, cost and time.

I'm pretty sure title 2 manufacturer is required if you are building many of them and re-selling as a business.

If you are building one, or a few, for yourself personally, you just need a form 1. Basically the same form as if you bought a commercial suppressor.
