eastmans had a bear bait show and nate was collecting leftovers from the local restaurant and keeping it all in a bucket to use for bait.

OK, that's different.  Try and find a surplus bakery store.  They sell "day old" stuff and have to get rid of a lot of stuff that goes past expiration dates.  If you can find a surplus Hostess outlet that can be a gold mine.  Candy makers also.  They have waste candy that they get rid of.  Another great place.  Any restaurant can be good too.  Fryer grease can go a long way if you have old bread to sop it up with.

If it's legal in ID, bacon grease slathered on anything is killer.  Same goes for carp and suckers.

check with some of the restaurants - Mike's old fashion donuts in the valley might be good.

Go to a feed store and buy a 5 gallon bucket of molasses, another thing you can do, if legal, is cook honey or molassses.

I like to use a PETA Activist, tied to a tree like he's hugging it, with a bacon headband, fruit roll-up shorts and maple bar shoes :chuckle:

When we could bait here we went to the bakery and a local butcher for meat scraps, molasses over the top cover with some logs, you should be good to go.

If legal------  The very "Best"..................Bear Crack----  Jello, cherry flavor, marshmellows, vanilla extract, honey and molasses, pour and mix in to a old pan at the site burn the jello, it stinks so freaking bad, add marshmellows and other stuff burn the p.o. out of it and then smear over a stump, tree branches, trunk, something it will absorb into, they will eat the tree to get to it and works amazing quick to bring them in first, then cheap dog food, smothered in grease...  Old halloween candy for extra special treats and of course doughnuts, strawberry jam and the last thing a honey gallon bottle with a nail hole in it to drip down on your barrel...  Have fun, I loved baiting and miss the heck out of it.  Great way to be very selective over shooting boars only and better quality animals...

Do any of you remember that the last year or so of legal baiting that it was against the law to use anything processed? That would make most of the above illegal even if baiting were legal in WA.

Now if anything were legal to use then I would go with the original bear crack, Fructose, as the best. Purchase it by the bag, moisten it and let it harden into chunks. Light, easy to pack and you don't have make a mess by cooking it. If you wanted to render it or use it for smoke then just take a small propane torch to it.
