Is crabbing open in Westport?

Wife wants to get away for the weekend, can I cast for crabs off the pier Saturday ?

Its my understanding that only cages are closed, but rings and nets remain open.

Thank you.  If we decide to go to open sores, can you get crab right off the pier where all the boats tie up? With the casting tri fold trap.
