Scent for WT

Just wondering how or if experienced hunters us deer pee in Nov for WT.  im headed up Friday and was planning on trying it.  We’ll mostly just be watching logged hills and maybe some still hunting.  Was gonna just drag a patch of doe in heat or put it on branches to catch the wind.  Any advantage to buck or doe scent this time of year?  Will it do more harm than good if local deer aren’t in estrous?

I think if you’re hunting from a stand or a blind in an area that you’ve patterned and are looking to attract bucks you already know are in the area, it works. If you’re in an unknown area then I believe they’re not worth it. We used to use scent drips back east in tree stand situations and the deer definitely know they’re there.  Whether or not them come to the location because of the scent is uncertain.

I have had plenty of response/reaction using scent, and even some success.  They have many uses besides the intended.  Its always best to introduce them long before its time to hunt as the wrong scent at the wrong time will really put the bucks off their feed.

It may be different in the West. Back in NH, fox pee really peaked their curiosity. I've had them come right down the trail on it.

Seen it work once 15 years ago when I ran a scent drag. Watched a young buck from a ridge follow the trail in the snow to where I took it off at but left him be. I’ve tried it twice since with no success but might try again in another 15 years 

Like anything else, I think there’s a time and place for most anything. I’m not sure an unknown public/logged area is either one.

the scents work if you are running cams on scrapes. I use to tie a scent drag on the last 200 yards to stand and watched many bucks sniff my trail right to stand
