Reputable hunting lab breeder/ training starter?
« on: November 09, 2020, 02:35:03 PM »
I had started the "mulling it over"
thread & you guys didn't have to twist my arm too much. I think we will go with a lab for multiple reasons, but a bigger one is they seem to be easier on my wife's allergies opposed to a shorter haired breed.
Now Im looking for breeders who produce hunting dogs. Possibly even get it started on some training.
Anyone have any leads? Prefer not to have it flown over.
I'm in North Bend.

You'd mentioned Tiger Mtn.  You might also look into Tri-Labs up in Tonasket.

While I cannot speak to if they offer training Ireland Farms in Shelton is a fantastic breeder for labs.  He has numerous Sires and Damns and breeds/crosses lineage to produce good pups.  Some litters are more sporting lineage, others are more show.  Give warren a call and let him know what you are looking for, he will guide to which of his litters will best fit your needs.

As for training nothing like doing a bunch yourself, it will help establish the bond as well.  Checkout StandingStoneKennels on youtube, they have a number of great series so you can see how their methods work on dogs with different temperments and abilities.

Buyer beware on Tiger Mountain ( my polite way of saying flee as fast as you can). Thumbs up on Tri-Lab. Might call Pat Murphy at NW Performance Dogs in Monroe. He did great work with my labs even the dumb one turned into a decent hunter. Pat will also shoot you straight on breeders.

Rocking M Retrieves, Cindy and Bryant are great people, and can get starter pups from them.

Kingsland Labradors in south hill puyallup has a great blood line, smart dogs.  She only breeds chocolate labs and can train the pup for a cost.

I will 2nd Ireland farms. I am 8 years in on my lab. I trained myself. And she is a hunting, retrieving fool.
Warren is excellent to work with.

+1 for Ireland Farms.  Warren has some high quality labs.  We got a female lab from him 2 years ago and she's incredibly smart and healthy with high drive and birdiness.

Conway Kennels in Stanwood has helped us in training.  I use them as a month or two refresher in the late summer.  They've helped us advance our training and iron out any annoying habits that develop or when the dog starts cheating on retrieves.

I get it that people have issues with the owner’s personality at Tiger Mountain Pointing Labs but I’ve never heard anyone complain about the quality of the dogs.  I’m on my third Tiger Mountain lab and they have all been exceptional upland and waterfowl dogs.  If you talk to Pat Murphy, ask him about Bailey.

Last winter into early summer I was talking with Cindy & Bryant @ Rocking M Labs. They’re great people, very nice & knowledgeable. I’d definitely buy a pup from them if I still lived in Washington.

I also would recommend Ireland Farms.   Got a smaller black lab right now that's a hunting machine.   She is also a great family dog and socialize's well with other dogs.

As far as training facilities go, Conway Kennels  north of Marysville offers some top notch training.   Great folks to work with there.
