Need input/opinions. Used decoy purchase
« on: November 18, 2020, 10:06:27 PM »
A friend of mine made a deal to purchase a number of used decoys in “great” shape.

Here’s what he sent me:

“I agreed in text to buy them for $300 based on this post. I didn’t feel comfortable renegotiating the purchase on the spot.  Should have walked Away but didn’t. Thought about it some more after I bought them and determined that some of the decoys were misrepresented as “great “ and asked for my money back. 4 of the decoys were either missing paint or repainted poorly 3 other decoys had legs with bondo on them and 1 cracked base plate.  The remaining 7 were in great condition. Asked for my money back on the 4 $80 since I am putting stake cups in the bondo ones and can use them.  Seller thinks I am asking too much and being unreasonable. Left it up to a vote by the people and both parties agreed to the outcome of the reasonable hunting community.

Vote.
Sale is final.
Or
Seller misrepresented the merchandise.  Refund $80.”

Here are pics.

Decoy 1. Poor paint job.

Decoy 2 painted poorly

Decoy 4 painted poorly

Bondo feet and broken plate

So. Let me know what all you experts think. Does he suck it up and take it as a loss because he didn’t look things over and mention it at the time of the purchase or does it seem like the seller misrepresented his product being in “great shape” and the buyer deserves $80 back of the $300 spent?

You be the judge!

Thanks for your time.

The time to back out was before cash traded hands.  Once you pay and leave, you own it.

That’s kind of where I’m at. Maybe not the greatest description, but he saw them, paid the money and now has buyers remorse. Been there. Live and learn.

And having said that, there’s nothing there that will stop geese from dying over those. By the time they are close enough to see the issues there should be BB’s impacting them.

I agree, they will hunt no problem.

I've done the same thing, didn't look very close and regretted it later.  If it's second hand off the internet, shame on me.  If I bought it new online, sure, go for a refund.

I sold a few used things this year and was amazed at how people really inspected the stuff, but they are smarter than I.  When buying used stuff, make sure you get what you want unless you don't care if you lose whatever you spent.

Buyer beware.

After the sale is the wrong time to renegotiate price.

I'd agree that "great shape" is little misleading, but step back 40 yards and see what they look like. They should hunt just fine.

The biggest benefit to buying used stuff in-person is to check it out before you pay. I'd say chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Oversold, they're a little rough, but they'll hunt fine and they're not "deceptively" sold. Don't agree to a price until you look them over!

He saw them and paid the cash.
The only thing I feel the buyer can complain about would be the repaired legs. He could try and negotiate that portion for cost of parts only to repair or return those ones.

As mentioned, the geese won't know the difference in paint from 50yds or more. Maybe they are crossbred dekes  and have some dusky in em.  :chuckle:
