Where have all the Naneum bucks gone?
« on: November 16, 2020, 11:26:11 AM »
Well have seen over 150  elk and 40 does. One buck if you want to call it that, it was a spike. Hopefully something starts happening soon Because there is sure zero sign of the rut going on now

They have exited stage left in the back of a certain few pickups...  :bash:

Yeah I was hoping someone could come up with a different answer than the jerky factory but that’s what I was kind of assuming.

My buddy told me he saw a wide shallow forked 4x4 cruising through a field off 970 about 12:45pm on Saturday. He lives near Teanaway and said he has been seeing rut activity on the private lands.

Well, I won't post the pic because I'm sure I'd get banned or this locked, but was sent a pic of two guys with rights that have at least 5 mule deer bucks filling the bed of their truck in the snow.  That's all I'll say for now.

Thanks. Saw a few small bucks with does and then finally a buck with potential a long ways off right before dark. Hopefully we can catch up to him in the morning

Well my hunting partner didn’t get the monster. He did get a decent 4 point with eyeguards trying to be a five point on one side. Not his biggest muley but his biggest Washington muley. And I was able to be there that day so it worked out great. Spotted him over a mile off and stalked into 250 yards. I will check with him and see if I can post a picture. Thanks for all the tips and Pms

Taking a step back from emotion and looking at this as it is.

I'm assuming there are three guys since someone had to take the pic. So 4 deer and an elk from what I can see. Ok, if this is their only trip of the year I'm ok with the harvest ratio. Looks like a good week in hunting camp for some guys. Especially if you have an extra tag. Or a weekend trip to Idaho.  :twocents:

What we don't know and is the part that I easily get worked up about.

Is it a point restriction area.? If so they should follow the management rules set in place to better the quality of the herds.

Is it their only trip of the year or does this happen every weekend.?

We probably will never know the answer to the second question.

If I lived in the Burg I would make every attempt to document the possible overharvest of game in wintering areas by the same individuals. That's the only thing that might help bring change to the possible use and abuse of big game in the area.

nope, the little naches will never be the same.  If one user group has zero limits and a few abuse this, tell me how it can recover?  I've hunted that area for years, my group has hunted it for over 30 years, it has changed this year noticeably.  We usually see hundreds of cows in the late season for archery, I saw none, my group finally saw some on fri even though they went 3 days without seeing a hair.   For the record, they did get one cow on monday.  Pretty discouraging

Early December 2019, was scouting my usual rifle unit. Taking a day's break from late archery elk in 352.

Driving up the road, saw flat bed truck in GMU360 with 5 elk piled on. Yep, those with special rights!
not the first time the I've witnessed a drive-by over the years.

only wish I had stopped, got out of my truck and taken cell pic. But they kept driving on down the 1503 road toward the 1500 road intersect about a mile+ further down.

Saw an Indian in a white Toyota Tacoma with 2 bucks in the back this fall on the 1500 road.

And that will continue. We all know WDFW can't do a thing.

But maybe approaching the tribes about certain repeat harvesters would be an option with documentation.

Or documenting the heck out it and submitting some info to the press.

I'm just as frustrated as everyone else but these threads come up every year. Sure if feels good to vent and pass along some info, watch for this truck, keep an eye on that dude...etc. But what has it accomplished over the years, besides alienating some of the tribal members we have on this site that could possibly make a difference where most of us can't.  :twocents:

Yeah you have some good points. WDFW works for us, the ones who spend hundreds of dollars every year on licenses and tags, but they wont defend us. They will take the path of least resistance, we need to make sure the that path isn't right over the top of the 99% of hunters following liberal seasons and harvest regulations.
We need politicians and media to back us on equal hunting rights off reservations, I don't know how that happens in this state or what the final straw is.
When the buffalo are gone we will hunt mice, for we are hunters and we want our freedom-Sitting Bull

If the tribe is taking over half the animals we might have a case to make.   We might be exceeding that in the Blues but do you think its happening in the Yakima region ????  idk.

No matter what they do (tribes), for as long as I can remember, wdfw, the governor, and politicians in general have been loathe to even appear to violate tribal sovereignity.  Its been so done in federal courts, the thought of a bunch (small bunch at that) of hunters from wa. changing historical tribal rights is unfortunately absurd.

That is my personal perspective gained from many conversations about it over the last 40 years.

The Yakama tribe kills deer and elk year around with absolutely no limits on how many each person can take. Some of them have jerky businesses. It's ridiculous. I think wolves are less of a problem than a group of people who hunt year around in order to keep a jerky business supplied with meat.

The Yakama tribe kills deer and elk year around with absolutely no limits on how many each person can take. Some of them have jerky businesses. It's ridiculous. I think wolves are less of a problem than a group of people who hunt year around in order to keep a jerky business supplied with meat.

 :yeah:

I’d have to say you’re spot on with this.. shooting wintering/vulnerable animals. Then harvesting animals and bumping  critters during harsh months is detrimental to survival rates. Reasons why shed hunting in certain areas have dates.

I think the wolves are the straw that broke the elk/deer back. Over harvest by SOME tribal members, not just the yakamas, mucks too, is arrogant and won’t stop till we have no permits left.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
