Remington 700 detchable magazine Q
« on: April 17, 2009, 08:17:11 PM »
I am going to be designing a trigger guard/floor plate for a different Remington bolt rifle. My plan is to build it using the basic specs of the 700 with detachable magazine and fit it to the other rifle and use the available magazines.

I know very little about the 700's and the differences in magazines. I need to buy one to make the model. The Rifle came in these calibers; .222 Remington, .223 Remington, 6mm Remington, 6.5mm Remington, .308 Win, .35 Remington, .350 Remington Magnum. I primarily will need the 243 and 308. What I would like to know is, is there a difference in the magazines for these rounds? Are the mags interchangeable between calibers?

I came across this from Cabelas, Kwik Klip. The price is good but I don't know if it is universal for other factory or aftermarket detachable magazines. Or if the quality is good enough to even bother with it. Some reproductions just plain stink.

Or if anyone has a floor plate and detachable magazine they do not need that I could purchase.  All it needs to be is in good condition and work. The finish does not matter. If possible I would like to be directed to a decent quality, but decent cost, aftermarket kit.

Thanks

there is usually some rem 700 bottom metal to be found for sale on 24hourcampfire.com , it is usually not something cheap.

I have the kwik klip on my remington 700 06 and have had no problems with it.  I have been using it for about 11 years now or so.

There are 3 different magazines for the short action... one for the .222/.223 case (I believe the .35 Rem fits in this one too)... one for the .243/.308 case (that's also used for the .22/250 and 6mm)... and one for the 6.5/.350 (this could also be used to house the SAUM and WSM... with some slight mods to the lips). I believe the only basic difference is the follower and the width of the magazine lips. I could be wrong... but that's what I remember.

Good information. I will pick up the kwik clip kit. I go through the reviews online but like to have more real world, as in NOT company lines, experiences.

Good to know about the different magazine sizes.

Thanks.

Adding kudo's to the kwik klip.  I have one, works great... only problem I had was there was a little bit of play in it.  I took and wrapped a towel around it and put it in the vice and squeezed it together just a tad.  Slides in and locks nice and tight and there's no noticeable gap along the edge of the stock.

I ended up borrowing my cousins from his kids 243. It won't work. The trigger guard I am reproducing is from a much shorter action and the mag drops about 1/2 way past the trigger loop.

Whatever, it was a thought.

Thanks for the help
