Well finished up at camp..for the time being..We ended up with 7 toms in camp..a few of my buds are still at camp and I am waiting to hear from them...Just got home.  I have some pics.  I bagged another great tom and a rare one to boot. I shot a melanistic turkey..it is caused by a lack of melanin..occurs in our flocks once in a while.  I know of 2 other that have been taken in Lincoln County.. I nicknamed it "Old Crow".  I climbed a 100 ft cliff to kill this bird..he liked the upper ledges of the canyon.  Everytime he would gobble at the woodpecker call and then not gobble at a hen yelp.  I had to get close to him before he would gobble.  He then would go up hill on me everytime..I climbed up a super steep rocky hill to close the gap. I called twice in which he gobble and gave me his location..I had to "butt scoot" (advanced technique don't try at home) up hill to see tom.  He started putting and I waited for the shot..The only shot I had was 45 -50 yards uphill.  One shot kill dropped him..then the rolling began..he rolled down and under logs and over rocks.  When I got to him several feathers were missing. He weighed 17 lbs had 3/4" spurs and 8.5" beard.

Congrats on some nice birds!!! I haven't even been out turkey hunting yet, haven't had time with work and the honey do list. But I heard a couple of toms sounding off behind the house yesterday morning, I would have went out there but I had to work last night.

Also we had the annual camp bitch contest and our friend "the mailman" in the last minute pulled out a victory kill.  He not only killed the smallest tom in camp, he killed the smallest tom in camp history.  We nicknamed the Tom "Pipsqueak".  The Mailman also was given the "Camp Bitch Lifetime Achievement Award"...I love Turkey Camp.. :chuckle:

Just found out one of my buds nailed a big bird this morning out of camp...We had a bird we called "Bin Laden"  He was very elusive sticking to the cliffs and rocks, hiding out with the hens, Always had his scouts watching the backdoor..putt putt!. I came close two years in a row but he was tough to kill.  Nightmares of Bin Laden laughing while he gobbled...I can say that Bin Laden was snipered this AM, but I heard there was some wrestling involved..I will have photos posted tonight..also heard a rumor he was a double beard...we will see.. :)

Well..not the best picture of Bin Laden..After a long cat and mouse back and forth of calling and waiting...Bin laden came in and my bud shot him at 10 yards ..the turkey then went butt over tea kettle off of a cliff.  My bud jumped on him and pulled half of the beard off and half of the tail fan.  Then he went butt over tea kettle six times down the hill and when he righted himself the turkey rolled into his lap...I had to put the fan back together just to get a picture of it..18lbs 9" beard 7/8" spurs.. A total of 8 birds from camp...

Oh and he had the lucky monkey with him!
